TV guide will not download, failed
My mother and sister both have the same problem. One unit is using wireless connection with a dlink adaptor which worked for a couple of years. The other has a direct connection over ethernet. Two separate homes and cable providers btw.
I think the problem is linked with the Zap2it website. The last successful download date was July 4th 2am EST 2010.
After calling LG they said many people were facing the same problem. They say the solution is to rerun the guide setup wizard. You will loose all your cable / remote control settings if you try this.
If you want to just check on your internet connection. Run 'Menu' -> 'Settings' -> Phone & Internet connection' then verify if you get an ip address with 'Menu' -> 'Settings' -> 'System Information'. Your ip address should not be all 0.0.0.0. I think it cant connect as the DNS server isn't listed so there isn't anyway the unit can resolve the Zap2it address.
Unit not responding
Not the solution but it has been suggested to remove and replace the CMOS battery. Can anyone help me finding the CMOS battery on an LG RHT387H

my relatively new, sat idle for two years, LG RHT398H DVD RECORDER has a strange fault the dvd keeps opening and closing at random if a disc is inserted and it wont obey open close commands, or read discs it, the dvd is totally rouge. The rest of the unit is fine. i think it will need re-install of firmware or maybe cleaning any ideas?
The output is in black and white-no color. Is
I don't know if this will help you, but one time I went on vaca & changed the recording quality to the lowest quality ( i can't remember now what it was called... I think the choices were best, better & good. I can't find out for you b/c presently I am in need of a power supply to power up my unit ) so I could record more hours & everything I recorded that way played back black & white with a greenish tint. I know you can change the recording quality in the settings. I'm not sure this is what you are talking about but I hope it helps.

I have two lg lrm-519 dvr's both power supply's
I have repaired two different LRM-519 that both had the same problem. The repair was a simple replacement of two capacitors on of the power supply board of each unit. You can search the web for repair instructions, or even search youtube for a video of the repair.
If you have the same problem I had then when you turn on your recorder it will only display the Hello message on the front of the unit (perhaps very dim) and the blue light on the power button will come on. Your next step is to open the device (about 7 screws) and slide the top off, then examine the tops of the capacitors on the power supply, if the tops of one or more are bulging up then this is a good candidate for attempting this repair.
For parts I found some on ebay and searching the web. If you don't want to do the repair yourself I have also seen people offer the power supply repair on ebay.
I CAN'T GET GUIDE TO DOWNLOAD.I DO HAVE AN IP
Can you ping the recorder from your computer on the network? In Windows, Start > All Programs > Accesssories > Command Prompt. At the prompt, type ping and the IP address of the recorder from the Start menu, Settings > Settings > System Information page. Press Enter after typing all 4 sections of the IP address. If you can't ping the recorder, I'd look for bad cables and connection issues with your router or modem (broadband or dial-up). Depending on your devices, you may be able to find a log file of the downtime.
Remember the guide takes a while to download, so if you are losing connectivity that could cause the failure. If you have your recorder, router and modem on an uninterruptible power supply, double check that they are plugged into the battery protected outlets and that the battery has sufficient charge to maintain the devices. Older UPS batteries will not keep a system running. Also check if your provider has been having downtime issues.
Check your Microsoft Program Guide subscription status.
I hope this helps.

(Upstream downtime issues have sometimes been a problem for me. I have created a batch file to check if my router, DSL hub (the point where my local loop connects to the ISP's network), DNS servers and regularly accessed sites are available. This started as a text file then I did a file save as "pingisp.bat" (with the quotes). The text file has several lines: each starts with ping and either the IP numbers for each device (or location) or address of a site. The browsing to the router status page gave me most of the IP numbers I needed. Any site that is not connecting gives a site unreachable message for several attempts. Working sites report how long it took for the packet to return.)
I requested a part number
Hello,
you can get the part number at the back of the player. If you don't see the part number there, get a screw driver, open the check the main board and the power board, you should find the part number there.
Or you can check the manual. if you don't have the manual, you can download the manual from the below link:
http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/LG/LRM-519-_E
Look by the right side of the page and you will see where to download the manual.
Good luck.
