Fan operates for a while
No the fan motor internaly have overheat cutout thermostat which cut off the motor when is overheated.
So first you should check the fan by rotate it by hand when it off unplug to see if it is stiff and if yes you can use a spay lubricant to spay over the moror axis so some of it enter over the ball bearing that holds the axis. this will help a lot so the axis will rotate more frely and motor will not have heavy load and overheated. If this does not have any results then you may need to replace the ball bearing or pulley which can be found
here or even a new
motor
I used the fan in our damp basement to circulate
Check the bearings, a spray of penetrating oil on all the bearings may help, but the ideal solution would be to strip the unit and replace the bearings. The moist air in the basement may have gotten into the bearings and started a build up of a rust film and the start of bearing siezure.
