Disassembling a cyclone by lasko for cleaning

There are screws hidden between the slats on the side of the fan that are not obvious. You will also need to pry the fan apart as it snaps together. On the back by the power cord is a round tab over it. There are some screws under it. They hold the motor to the back assembly. It took about 7 minutes for us to get it apart today because of the screws being hidden on the sides. After a cleaning it won't turn on now.

Question about lasko box fan

Your picture is kind of dark, so I can't say for certain, but I can speak from experience; the black box might be the problem. The black box is "potted"- filled with epoxy to absorb heat, protect anything near it, and so you can't/won't try to repair it. The black box frequently contains a capacitor (and probably a fuse). The capacitor's job is to throw the fan motor's magnetic coils into a microsecond of imbalance, and force the fan to start turning in a particular direction. The capacitor is a very common failure. (Ask anyone that works on the exterior compressor/condensor of a home AC unit) You can usually prove that's the case by helping a fan to start spinning after the power is applied (just be careful, use a pencil and not a finger, for obvious reasons). In any case, you should seek to replace the "black box", or more easily, fight your innate tendency to fix everything (I fight with that every day) and just reward yourself with a new fan.

How do you remove front grill of Lasko NSC-243 to enable cleaning? Thanks.

A tower fan should not be opened at all. (It’s unsafe to do so, and may damage your fan.) Every two to three weeks, simply use the brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner on the tower fan intake grills to remove lint and dirt, or use a can of compressed air to blow off dust from inner fan blades. That’s it! Your clean tower fan is ready to be plugged back in and get back to keeping your home breezy.
