If your computer recognizes a disc in the drive and operates normally, Id assume you would need a DVD player or codec to be able to actually watch the DVD. PowerDVD rings a bell.
Have you tired that? I know Windows Media Player by default wont let you watch a movie without first downloading a codec.

Need the model number of the drive not just the name. The picture looks like a Laptop DVD/RW. The matter of it working is the connection type. First of all you need a sata burner.

make sure that the dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in or you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device click start control panel administrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you can you can update driver,roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem Close all open programs

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose DeleteAfter deleting the keys, close the registry editorReboot your computerOpen My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

What OS and disc brand and type are you using? Try a different brand; some disc manufacturers seem to make more "coasters" than others. If you are not using RW(rewritable) discs, make sure to cancel the autoplay "Format disc" option for blank discs in most Windows OS versions. I chose to turn off autoplay.

(Yes I made a few coasters. So far I've found that Verbatim DVD +R DL discs are good. CDs are fine with most brands. However, other reviewers say that the plant where the optical discs were made matters.)

well does it give ann error, does it say nothing as if no disk is inserted or is it region locked. try to elaborate more so that i assist you.

Double click on the one you are having problems with and insert your installation disc then update driver. If you haven't got the disc then search online for update driver and then the name of the one in question. There will be a few websites where you will be able to download the updates without an installation disc.

You need to use DVD burning software and there are several steps to burning DVD's, depending on the source.

Download the proper drivers from pioneer.

Update the Firm ware

have you had any virus infections? I would download malware bytes and rootkit revealer to see if you have any viruses or rootkits you should email me at [email protected]
and you might have a rootkit that is causing issues with the dvd read/write. otherwise a failing device.
you could also burn puppylinux on a cd, run it and see if you can pop in a dvd and see if it reads the media. if so you are looking at a windows software file or virus issue.

if its old one..get a dvd cleaner(it will be a dvd embedded with small brushes and a solution) and clean up your player's lens..make sure you dont touch the lens with your hands and respond back..one thing i am unsure is the availability of such cleaner in your country

your DVD ROM lens has became weak.
and it cannot be repaired.
But if you manage to open the DVD ROM clean the dust in it & it will start working again but be careful remember that no power should be attached to ROM.
or you can buy a lens cleaner from market and try that.

Imy burner will burn if I go into MY COMPUTER than into MY E drive but the auto burn will not work. I do have 1dvd click and ashampoo on the computer as well, but when I put a disc into the computer it will not automtically work. I was wondering if the above programs are stopping the auto play on it or what? The burner works fine if I go to the E drive and install o burn it that way, is there some kind of a setting or something that went out of wack??

you need to select the disk as audio disk in the burning application, then select tracks and burn it.

You need to uninstall the device driver for you IDE controller and then let windows to a hardware detect and reinstall. I have had this problem before with my compaq laptop and the pioneer K15 DVD drive.

These drives, remarkably, don't need drivers to work, just a good non-microsoft burner, so your burning program may be corrupt. If you don't know what burning program you have, I recommend downloading Belarc Advisor, a free program which not only tells you everything in your computer, with model numbers for hardware and all of your software (with their unique codes), and will also inform you if you are missing any needed Windows updates.

Once you know what you have, if it came with the computer, you have to seek an upload at the computer manufacturer's website, as it may be a special program not related to the burning software purchased from the software manufacturer---go to their website for upgrades. Also, check device manager in control panel under hardware to see if you have a problem with anything (a big yellow check) to fix.

you want to play music or a film on the laptop and run it through the Pioneer HTZ-170DVD Region Free Home Theater System and through speakers? I don't see why not. You would use the audio out on the laptop and connect to the audio input on the Pioneer. If the laptop has HDMI, it is even easier. Here is the manual.
