Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial. There are a number of reasons why your brush roller has stopped moving. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance. First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing. While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all. Bissell liftoff brush wont turn

Check the connections on the bottom of the lift off part, and the matching connector on the bottom section. If bad, take it to a warranty repair shop for Bissell. Other wise it could be the brush motor that is bad, or the switch is bad.

My brush is not turning and the belt is on the motor. I think the belt motor may be bad due to excessive dog hair. How do I get to the motor?

I had one melt the plastic around the bearings on the brush. you might try taking out the brush first, getting to the motor you'll have to take it completely apart.

Bissel 3760-4 brush motor doesn't turn on

Hi Tim. I understand the brush is turning & belt is fine. You may want to remove and reseat the canister. If this doesn't work, you'll want to have one of our Authorized Service Centers inspect your vacuum. Here's a link to assist you in locating one in your area: http://www.bissell.com/service-centers/?cid=ccsocial

I've changed the belt on my Bissell 3760-2 model

Clogs affect the air movement, but not the brush assembly. Remove the brush assembly from the vacuum base. Remove, clean, and lightly oil (with 3-1 or similar) the two end bearings. They are usually choked with debris to the point that they lock the brush roller. Reassemble it without the belt for a moment and check for free turning. If ok, install the belt and test the whole vacuum. Hope this helps!

When i use the vaccum, it smells like burning

I would first check to see that the brush is not stuck. Remove any hair, or foreign objects that could possibly stop the brush from rotating. Some machines have latches to remove the plate for access to the belt and others have a couple of screws. Yes I suggest that you replace the belt. Good Luck

The motor overheats and shuts off. This annoying

Almost all vacuum cleaners have a thermal cut-out, which operates when the machine gets too hot and resets automatically when it cools down. Overheating is almost always caused by a blockage. Either the filters need cleaning or changing, or there's an obstruction somewhere in the pipe-work. Make sure there's good clear air flow and your problem should be solved. Good luck!

I have a bissell vacuum

The filter if its dirty in gives bad smell. Also if it gets worn out or very old it gives bad smell. Many other users too have noticed this bad smell.Replacing the filter helped many other users too. The worst part being smell of the filter once it goes bad it stays bad and fills the room with a nasty rotten smell. ----------- Also you try cleaning the filters. As you mentioned in your question that you have already tried this but try to clean the filter as per the instructions mentioned in the service manual. And see if that reduces the bad smell. The manual specifically states not to use a mild cleaning agent while washing the filters, you may wash the filters in cold or warm water using a scented mild detergent, and make sure to remove any excess water in the filters since this is what normally creates the horrible smelling odor after it has been washed and dried. Also let the filter get completely dried up before you refit the filter again. If its fitted wet the bad odor smell comes. You can use hairdryer to dry the filter quickly.Check out if this is helping.Thanks.Helpmech.
