I pushed clean on my Maytag oven and locked the door and nothing happened.
Must be on strike, seriously though I would first check the switch on door. Hello Sheila, hair-line fracture of the heating element will behave exactly as you describe... Last time I puzzled about a heating element... I ran my finger over the surface... When I got to the CRACK it gave me a full potential shock on my fingertip... (hurt pretty good... DON'T DO THAT...!! If you want to test for VOLTAGE I heartily recommend the "no-contact" models.. like KLEIN NCVT on AMAZON (below). Without a make & model ... this is really nothing but SPECULATION.
