Maytag ensignia washer...cold water settings

You need to remove the cover and check the voltage to the cold water inlet valve. Do this with a volt meter while it is set to fill with cold water. It is most likely an AC voltage that is around 24 volts. If you have voltage then the valve is most likely bad.

Smoke coming out of washing machine

If it comes from the bottom, motor and belt need to be checked. If it comes from the top, the control board has something inside burning.

I have a HotPoint washing machine, and it is leaking water bad. It leaks whenever the spin cycle starts, and the washing machine shakes pretty bad in that cycle. It's my ex girlfriends washing

The leaking could be coming from the exit port on the washing machine. Check the hoses leading from the washer to the drainage port in the wall. As for the shaking, check that the level adjustments at the bottom of the machine are level.

Smoke was coming out of my washing machine

That would indicate either that either the electric motor is starting to seize up or the belt is slipping.

I have a Maytag Ensignia MAV6457AWW washing

In this case it seems that the main bearings on the shaft is a suspect. However if you have noticed that machine is vibrating when it is running then the motor /drum suspension has to be inspected. Since these fittings are located on the underside of the machine it is important that you look for the noise with a good inspection lamp. Manually turn the motor and drum and listen for the noise, if so the motor bearings, the drum agitator shaft and fittings must be checked. Also the suspensions which include the shock absorbers and springs, the body clamps must be checked to be in correct alignment and not changed in position. Tightening of the mounting is also very important. Finally in most cases a drop of OIL or smear of grease on the moving parts cane solve most issues. For replacement of bearings check for tips on this visual link: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/washing-machines/a/7/1401/how-to-replace-the-bearings-on-a-washing-mach.html

Unplug the unit and remove the front panel and look at the space between the motor and transmission find the coupler that connects the two together this could be broken. You may have to lay the unit on it's back to check this out. It's a cheap fix if its the coupler. Let me know.

Washer won't turn on

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Check that the washer supply is OK using another item - a kettle for instance. If it's not check your breakers/fuses. Reset/replace if necessary and if the same thing happens, or if there was nothing wrong with the breakers/fuses in the first place, sorry but with such a fault it is impossible for anybody on this forum to remotely guess what could be wrong with your washer. It could be internal wiring/plugs sockets, control panel switches, control PCB
.
I fear that your only real option is a service call as the engineer will have the right equipment to safely diagnose what is wrong.

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

Washer wont operate even with

What happens over time is the lid gets a little bent from use , reason it wont start unless lid is put down is because there is a lid switch that is called a safety switch, you might have to bend down lid some or this: Ok, first check under the lid, there is a peg that goes into the top edge of the washer. That is a switch. The idea between this is that it is a safety feature for mostly kids, so that when the washer is on that high speed spin cycle, that a child does not open up lid and stick there arm or hand in and have it injured. Most washer are designed so that the washer will only spin when the washing machine lid is down. So, of course you have it down, but sometimes the lid might have got a little bent or warped. So first try with lid down pushing down on lid while on spin cycle. If still wont spin, most likely it is that switch that that peg goes into, if you take a knife or flat head screw driver, with lid up on spin cycle and push into that hole with the knife or flat head screw driver and do not here a click when pushing it and releasing it, then you need to replace that switch, it is pretty cheep, normally under 20 bucks and a appliance store and when picking up the part they can tell you exactly how to replace it yourself, it is pretty easy and only takes a few minutes. Hope this helps. Mike

After washing some bath mats

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
I would gently suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor/pump lint tray/filter. So many 'faults' are caused by blocked filters and many machines will not even go to spin or release the door lock if there is any water still left inside.
Here are my complete and general guidance notes for checking both the drain motor filter and the drain motor ;-0)

If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!) and most are held in by a round cover/knob. Sometimes the filter will not come out with the cover and you will have to persuade it to come out to play.

REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP THE WATER WHICH IS BOUND TO POUR OUT.
It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.
Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!
At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. Using something suitable like a glove see if it is easy to briefly slow the motor down. If it is easy then the motor is malfunctioning.

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

Washer shaking, making loud noise and leaking

Sounds like a tub support could be defective causing excessive tub movement splashing water outside the washer. Try to move the tub by hand and see if it is firm and snaps back to its center position. If the tub is loose, lift the top cover off by using a non marring tool to pry the front up and lift the cover back on the hinges. Inspect the tub supports for broken or worn rubber shock absorbers. Look at both the tub support shafts and the corner stabilizer attached to the frame and the outer tub. You may need to inspect the fill hose and the water injector to see if it is loose or cracked.

Hello klj... Unscrew the cold hose from both ends and run a wire through the entire length to remove any blockage anywhere. Also check the connection locations looking for calcification of some kind. If it's clean, you probably have a defective water-inlet valve. If so, you need to replace the valve. Joe
