Blinking red light, i tried

You have problems with your power up circuits. It is more than likely a fuse blown in some part of the TV that is keeping it from coming on. Also almost everything from a Computer to a $10.00 Calculator starts up by running a self diagnostics test on it's circuitry and if it detects any problems it will shut down or will go into a standby mode. Your TV has detected a problem some where in the circuitry and went into 'safe' or 'standby mode'. As I said in the beginning it could be a fuse, then again it could be about anything. I'm saying fuse because the heating and cooling of the element in the fuse often leads to metal fatigue and causes them to open up. Check the back and see if it has a 'user friendly' fuse panel and go from there. Look for a 30 amp blade fuse [it will be green] and see if its blown. I think that model has a history of blowing that particular fuse. If not, and you are not experienced in TV Repair don't attempt to take the back off and fix it your self, because there's places in there that will fix you good. You will need to take to a reputable TV Repair shop. I hope it's the fuse and that this helped! dhgill1949

I', attempting to connect a Roku player. I

Because you have a non-HD tv you will have to use the Composite connector (the yellow one) and the audio ones in line with it (the red and white ones). So just use a cable like http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-RCA3N1HQ6-Composite-Video-Stereo/dp/B00066HSJE to connect it as explained in the manual at page 24 - 25. Once the cable has been connected just press the Source button (clearly labeled as that) on the remote to select the correct input - VIDEO. If you no longer have the manual get it from here http://www.4shared.com/document/UIImEmie/Manual_AKAI_PDP4294.html

White line

There are individual drivers for each line of plasma cells in the display (horz. & vert.), but they usually are an integral part of the display module that can only be repaired by the manufacturer. A new 42" HD-ready set with more features can be bought for 50-75% of what was likely paid for this one. The cheapest thing to do is learn to live with it. (That's what I'd do until the set got worse or the prices got even lower.)

Akai PDP4204 has no picture.

Plasma and LCD TV sets are prone to having capacitors in the power supply section fail. This is the most likely cause for the probem you describe. When capacitors fail your will commonly see one or more of the following symptoms.
  • No video, Power light is on or blinking.
  • TV is making a clicking noise.
  • TV takes a while to come on
  • Screen is very dim or flickers.

Again, You can get a power supply repair kit with the parts, detailed instructions, and support from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com . Or just click here to see more details on their kit.

Here are pictures of capacitors...Notice that the ones below look bloated. They have failed and will need to be repalced.

Black stripe down the picture

Remove the back and find the ribbon cable that line up with the black line at the bottom of the screen, the ribbon cables run across the bottom and you have the unplug the ribbon cable that line up with the black line, when you unplug it , on the other side of the cable you Will see surface mounted resisters and caps and they can be re solder, without getting to hot and damaging the cable, then plug it back in and put everything back together and it will fix the black line.

I have a akai pdp4294 tv with sound and no picture

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

Remember, TVs CONTAIN HIGH VOLTAGE AND CAN KILL YOU! Do this at your own risk.

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. The entire board costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found online. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be.

I have a Tip/How TO tutorial on this site that may also help. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. Here is the Link: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I'm working on uploading pictures to help guide people though the process as well. Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Hope this helps and if it does please rate it accordingly. Good luck.

42 inch plasma seems a little choppy when watching

The first thing I would do is check firmware and see if there is a need for upgrade. You can google this or just go to Akai website and ask or even call them.

How do i hook up the ps2 and wii

Assuming you have your cable or satellite hooked up to a component in, you can hook up either the Wii or PS2 to the other component input. The other will have to hooked up to the S-video input or composite. (Personally, I'd hook up the PS2 to a component in and the Wii to S-video as the Wii is only a standard definition game platform anyway.) Good luck.
