Clarion EQS746 Equalizer - 7-Band In-Dash Rotary Equalizer with Subwoofer Crossover Auxiliary Input Car Equalizer Questions & Answers
I have a kenwood excelon kdc-x794 with 6 pre-amp
Man first of all let me tell you , You have enough equipment for small rock show !!!.
The Clarion EQ has only one set of inputs. In other words you won't be able to use the fader controls to adjust the front to back sound from the Kenwood unit. That should not be a problem if you are mounting the EQ in the dash. And also you will need an additional 4 channel Amp to power your 4 speakers other than your sub woofers. You will also need Capacitor Banks or your battery will be over loaded !!!
Connection are as follows
1) Connect the Kenwood Head unit RCA out ( either front or rear ) to the Clarion EQ Line In socket.
2) Connect the EQ Front & Rear out to the 4 channel Amplifiers 4 inputs. Connect 4 full range speakers to the out of the 4 channel Amp. Make sure the 4 channel Amp you buy is powerfull because your total sub output is very high. Unless you like only pounding bass with low level upper frequencies .
3) Connect the EQ''s Sub out to the Alpine M1000 Amp inputs. Left sub out to one mono block and Right out to the other mono block.Connect the two Alpine Sub Woofer ( 1223D ) to each of the mono blocks outputs.
4) Now from the Mono block Pre Amp out link a RCA cable to the Boston GT2 Amp inputs. One cable each from the 2 mono blocks to each of the Left & Right Boston inputs. This is called a loop through connection. You must have been wondering how to connect the second Sub Amp ?? Now in the bridged mode connect the SWR sub woofer to the Boston Amp output.
This should set you up for a concert level sound . Make sure you buy heavy gauge power cables for the Amps and don't run the system with out the car engine running !!! . Use Capacitor banks parallel to the Amp power cables. Red to the + of the Capacitor and Black to the - of the capacitor.Connect the capactiors using a short cable or as near as the Amplifier as possible.
Revert back for any further assistance. DRIVE SAFE and remember with this setup running you won't hear GODZILLA coming at 10 feet distance.
How can i get my power to my EQ?
What kind of eq is it? First thing I would do is hook up the +12 and GND to the same place the amp is hooked up. I think the eq is having a hard time getting ample current, therefore shutting off all the way when the bass hits. Caps are good, but second battery and battery isolator are far superior.
Power
maybe youre voltage is dropping? is it when your bass hits real hard or when you turn up the music real loud? or when ur using ur headlights, a/c and stuff like that? or maybe you just have a bad connection? id would check the connection first then id sit in a parking lot figuring what is on when it cuts off. then id cut off one accessory at a time to see. if your voltage is dropping you can get a new alternator or battery. just go to your local advanced auto store and have them check it. my email is m1chae11ane123@yahoo if u have any other questions. sorry u waited so long but i just found this site.
Head unit connect
You will only be able to use this EQ on the front or the rear speakers. You will have to get another EQ if you think you need one. Usually, the front speakers of a car's audio system are the smallest and the rears are larger. You really do not want an EQ on the subs. If it was mine, I would hook the EQ between the head unit and the rear speakers. If you feel this does not sound right, you may need, but I doubt it very much, to get another EQ for the front speakers. Good Luck
