Can you transfer your Dongle to a usb stick and use windows 7 for 3D software insted of windows XP?

I took a class a couple of days ago at my local Husqvarna Viking store and my dongle wasn't working so the lady asked if I could used the cable. I have a Designer Topaz 20 and it didn't have the correct port to use the cable but U did have another USB drive and we were able to transfer the embroidery design to that and it worked just fine. I spoke with the manager yesterday about the dongle issues I have had ans she said that I can use any USB drive as long as it isn't too big because the machine can't read a drive bigger that 8GM. She says if you have more than that it take a really long time for the embroidery patterns to load. I hope that helps. On a side note, I really wish this site didn't categorize Husqvarna Viking Products under "Floppy Drives". Yes, our embroidery machines are computers but it's not likely that the techy folks looking in the floppy drives category can even help us. Hey, Fixya can we have a Husqvarna Viking category for sewing & embroidery machines?

They should be compatible. You may have to sign on and get an update at the Viking site - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us An update would allow you to change the Send configuration within 3D to the appropriate machine.

It may or may not. You'll just have to try running it in compatibility mode. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you.

Changing the tension on Viking designer 1 sewing

Before changing any settings, take your brush (or another small stiff brush) and brush out any loose threads or lint in the upper tension unit disks. Also remove the bobbin case and brush out the case especially in the spring area where the thread loops through. You might want to take a sharp needle and dig out any loose thread or lint in the spring. You may have to dig deep to get it all out. Then give it a try. If you have to change the tension settings electronically, the machine will reset to the default setting when you change stitches or turn the machine off and back on.

Designer 1 needle threader

Adjust the needle threader up and down by loosening the 2 small screws at the back of the threader using a T6 (Torx 6) screw driver. Loosen screws and move it up or down until the hook fits into the eye of the needle. Then tighten the screws. It may take several tries to get it right. If that doesn't work, use a magnifying glass and check the hook on the threader to determine if it's bent. If it is, it will need to be replaced. The cost of the part is about $15. You can purchase the part and install it with the above instructions, loosening the screws until the unit slips off. You may have to use the screws and metal bar on the new part so be careful when removing it.

Husqvarna viking designer 1 embroidery machine.

Sounds like a loose cable or the USB drive has gone bad. The Designer 1 is notorious for having a delay in reading USB sticks. You will probably have to wait a full minute from the time you turn the machine on until it will read the stick. The Viking stick is the only 1 Viking recommends for use. But customers have been able to get other sticks to work. Get the smallest memory stick (storage capacity) possible if not a Viking stick. I have gotten the Office Depot brand and the EMC brand to work haphazardly. Also make sure the stick has been formatted and prepared to work with the Designer 1 machine. There is a menu structure that has to be used for the stick. However a quick way to check if it's the stick and not the machine is to put it the stick in the machine with the power off and turn the machine on as though to update it - Push in firmly and hold the start/stop button and the stitch re-start button at the same time. See illustrations. With both of these buttons firmly depressed, turn the Designer I ON If the machine says 'file not found' it is reading the stick. If the machine just goes to the regular sewing menu or says Disk Not Accepted it is a problem with the machine USB port. Suggest having it serviced by an Authorized Viking Dealer. I have a Husqvarna Viking Designer I. The touch screen no longer responds to touch. Is this a motherboard problem and is there a ballpark price that goes with the motherboard?

I would check the Touch Screen first. Your Owner's Manual tells you how to calibrate the touch screen from the SET menu. However if the touch screen isn't working, you can't get to the SET menu. Suggest taking it to an authorized Viking Dealer and they would be able to quickly determine the solution. Designer 1 husqvarna change settings to factory

I don't think there is a way to reset the machine back to Factory Settings using the Menu system, specifically the SET menu. A quick way to do it though would be to install the latest update, even if it is the same as the currently installed one. The firmware update will reset everything. You can get the latest update from the Viking website - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us and going to the Machine Updates link in the lower righthand side of the page. Then click on 'All Machines' and a pop will appear listing all machines. Click on the Designer 1 machine. From there you will see a picture of your machine and can download the User Manual and latest update. Instructions how to update the machine is included on the page also. Good luck.

Will not sew straight stitches

If the needle moves side to side easily with power turned on, the sewing head has been damaged. An experienced Viking Service Tech can probably repair the sewing head. A replacement is about $600. You can find your nearest local Authorized Viking Dealer at the Viking website - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us and click on the 'Locate a Dealer' icon.
