Won't turn on

If you're using a DVD player or other component using the Component cable hookup, try unplugging that from the mix, unplug the power cord for the TV from the wall and wait 15 seconds and plug it back in, then power the TV back on. Mine used to do this and I gave up on the component cable option and went back to composite (RCA).

No Picture

Hear say has it that Toshiba who made alot of the internal parts for this model can offer more help than Akai.
As for the other problems... first Id try leaving the TV unplugged for a day or so. This is a great TV, picked mine up for 400 from my boss who baught it a few years back for 1400 from Sams Club. If I hear a solution I'll be sure to come back here and post it.

Akai PT5598HD 55 in. Rear Projection

Something like this Id have someone who knows there way around electronics, a qualified tech or someone you trust really well :-) Does the crackling affect the TV picture at all ? My first guess would be dust and or dampness on the audio components. Sometimes this can conduct electricity across small pc chips and reak all sorts of havoc. I had an old Tomas electric organ once, and it actually caught fire because two speaker wires were rubbing together and eventually wore thru the insulation and shorted out, but it was also making alot of crackling and static noises. Try raising and lowering the volume low to high and high to low and see if the crackling noises gets worse. Some audio amplifiers put out quite a bit of power, so I wouldnt trust leaving the TV on without a fire extinguisher handy.

CONVERGENCE

Solution for your tv problem
http://cmpalmer.blogspot.com/2006/11/fixing-my-own-tv-part-ii.html

One last check and a quick dusting of the lenses and mirrors, then I powered it up for a "smoke test". It worked! I screwed the back on and reconnected all of my video sources and moved it back in place. I only had to do a minor on screen convergence adjustment and then it looked perfect again.

It took me about an hour and a half. The parts cost $5.99 each, expedited shipping was around $16. New soldering iron and bulb cost me about $25 and the heat sink compound was $5. So the repair cost me less than $60 (and would have been less without tools). Compared to a repair estimate of $500, I saved over $440!

Interlaced comes in fuzzy & with lines

you need to check if the dvd or games are doing the same thing on different inputs. if they have the same problems you might be looking at the single board or the focus block.

Convergence problem

Part # STK392-040 X 2 Do not use generic-they won't hold up.
I use Panasonic brand with no recalls------wholesale cost about
30.00 each. Always replace both at same time = more efficient.
After replacement, alignment may be needed = let me know.

TV projects a pink/green shadow

Logically proceed one source at a time = disconnect all,
then hook-up one at a time or hook-up seperately.FYI, the
RF coax , composite and s-video inputs all share the same
circuitry, whereas component is a whole seperate video
processing circuit, with another difference between 480P and
1080 I . Sounds like you have a 1080 I problem, which might
be a little sister board..............................T.

Let me know..............Thanks.

The tv won't come on

Try to unplug the set overnight to see if the Microprocessorr got a glitch. Try it the next day. If that didnt work i would say then your gonna need a pro as I've said before these sets have no user servicable parts inside so its not like the good old days where you take out a bunch of tubes and check them. Todays sets are all solid state electronic componets so you really have to know your electronics before you should attempt to repair a set these days as you could get a really big shock even if its unplugged. Sorry Good Luck

Picture moved up and to the right

I know this is an old post, but it was never replied to and I just joined the site. Does the image only show the shift when on the DVD input? It is possible that the DVD player is the one shifting the image and not the TV. Try another device on that input and see if it goes away. Kenneth

AKAI PT5598HD

Your set has what is know as "convergence problem" because of the bowed lines and ghost in different colors,is really not an easy solution, the set should have 3 amplifiers(one for each color)and they need to be replaced with an exact replacement, sometimes just by replacing them the aligment should be close but soemtimes you nned to get into the service menu to do some adjustments, the amps(IC's) are mounted on heat sinks and all 3 have the same part number on its face, they normally read STK--- ---,every set uses different amps,If you are familiar with tv service you have now a place to start working but if you are not too familiar be safe and call for help from a servicer.Let Us know if you need more information.
