I have a Western Digital

AS long as the computer device drivers are up to data, the USB port should be operational and communicate with your external drive. If the external drive is connected to a USB port and you are certain the external drive is running (listen for the whirring sounds) and still no communication; the hard drive may have lost the formatting feature. Switch USB ports around and see if any signal reaches the File Explorer in Windows.

Run wd1600 via ide-usb problems

Just replace the case the drive is in. You can get them from stores that sell computer parts like Fry's Electronics. There are many online sources too.

better to replaced the hard drive, co'z once you heard a loud sound on it, that means that the drive is now having a physical damage, if you the hard drive still working, it will not stay longer due to physical damage inside of the hard drive.

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your "((MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error even something as small as a faulty electrical extension or fan lead can cause this problem

computers need all of the data and electrical current to travel through every working device and to have an end to be able work properly

a motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail check all electrical power input and extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd floppy drives need to have current go through make sure these drives are working

also check the Cmos battery and computer RAM modules make sure they are securely seated with no dust built up or in the sockets

hope this helps you

I have an WD1600 and

Mohamed if the hard drive has bad sectors on it is best to replace the hard drive itself. But you need to save the files first by doing so, you have to do a parallel re install. Parallel re install is like booting your hard drive with 2 operating systems for details on how to do that click on this link.
Once you are finished try downloading and saving it on a external hard drive all the files that you saved. Purchase another hard drive and upload the files that you have saved

Well, if this hard drive is SATA and looks like this:
ikayos.jpg
Then you don't need to worry about the jumpers at all, the hard drive is ready for use in your PC.

However, if it's IDE, which looks like this:
ikayos_0.jpg

You will need to move the pins to the "Slave" setting, and on Western Digital drives it is one set of vertical pins going away from the 4 pin power input, the above picture is set for Slave mode, and can be used as a reference.

I have two WD1600s, in RAID 0 configuration, on my

If you have a Raid 0, then both drives are tied into one. You could remove the bad drive, and just use the leftover one. But you would need to disable RAID in the BIOS.

Unless you know how you benefit from a Raid 0, I do not recommend keeping a Raid 0 if you have important files you need to keep.

you could also buy another drive, disable Raid, and install the operating system on the first drive, and keep leftover files like pictures etc on the second drive.

Hello, After I installed my harddisk

dont even think about throwing your hard drive away before you try some troubleshooting make sure that the cd/dvd rom is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd including electrical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd rw then plug them back in or you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device click start control panel administrive tools, computer management device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives if you see a yellow question mark? right click you will have options to update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall Click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete After deleting the keys, close the registry editor Reboot your computer Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone. Hope this helps

Will not boot. Keeps looking

It appears to be a Sata drive.
See if you can see it in the Bios setup screen.

The most common way to enter setup is to press DEL after turning the power on.
Watch the screen, other instructions may be given.

If it is found in Bios
It has no partition created on it.
It does not have a bootable partition.
In this case windows setup should identify it and start installatio.

If it is not found in bios
It has no data connection, make sure it is properly connected.
It has no power. Again, check the connection, Check that both 5V and 12v are presemt
It is faulty.
