One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your "((motherboard to your hard drive))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error hope this helps

Hello, Where could I find a

Check in your BIOS,first make sure the SATA controller is set to native mode and not RAID, and secondly that the BIOS can detect the drive, if the drive can't be detected by the BIOS then it's because the drive surpasses the boards drive size limitation.; If this is the case there is a chance a BIOS update may fix it but it's not guaranteed it will.

Hi, on the rear of the drive there are a series of pins with a small plug coveing two; you need to remove the pin and alter the placement for either, master or slave depending on what you are using the drive for; you will see a small diagram telling you where to place the plug. Hope this helps

I have a WD CAVIAR

Hi,
It would be very difficult to locate the spare parts for your hard-drive since it is manufactured 6 years back and is already out of warranty period. Even if one does manage to find the spare part, it is not sure that the drive will work. So,it would be better if you go for a data recovery procedure if you have valuable data on the disk.
Hope this helps. For more help and clarifications, please reply. Thanks.

Maxtor basics hard drive and my xbox 360

Does your drive make any sounds similar to these? If yes you have a mechanical problem and you should get a specialist to work on it if you need that data.
If not - try to remove the drive from the enclosure and connect it directly to the computer to recover your files.

Western digital 500 gig hd eide disc error????

Take it back to the store - this is a common problem with WD drives and WD are doing nothing to address this issue with their larger drives. Buy another make and you should be trouble free.

WD Caviar SE 16

Have you installed it as the main drive, ie the one with the ops system on, or have you installed it as a secondary drive? Either way, check you have the drive set up correctly as per instructions on pack. You are not alone with this problem either, it is common with WD. Come back to me with more info re your install.

Personally, I would set it up in an external enclosure and access via USB. Much more realable that way, and it is portable for you.

WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR SE 500 GB

Hi, looks like your usb drive has died. Try it on another pc / laptop first. If it still does not work, you will need to purchase drive data reader while will allow you to access the data. Most pc stores carry them. Cost about 50 euros. Best of luck.

Installation

The hard drive will automatically install you do not need to install a driver. I'm guessing this is a hard drive in addition to the hard drive that vista is running on? If so you probably need to format the hard drive to gain access to it. Click the windows button, and in the search field type compmgmt.msc and hit enter. Click continue when the UAC pops up. Now inside the Computer Management Console find and click on Storage and then Disk Management. On the bottom portion look for your new hard drive. Most likely it will have a black colored stripe and say UNALLOCATED. This will explain how to do the rest Yes that article is for XP but the one in Vista is pretty much the same.
