OK HERE'S THE DEAL WITH THE ASTAR YOU ALL SPEAK OF THE PERSON FROM SOLUTION 3 IS RIGHT IT'S A POWER SUPPLY ISSUE WE'VE GOT 130 OF THESE I'VE FIXED 40 OUT 44 POWER SUPPLIES. IF ANY OF YOU HAVE SOME SKILLS WITH SOLDERING. THE MAIN PROBLEM IS IN THE CAPACITORS. THERE ARE 3 SETS OF CAPACITORS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED. 4 3300uf 35v, 8 2200uf 25v, 7 1000uf 10v. ONCE YOU REPLACE THESE YOU SHOULD BE GOOD TO GO. THE OTHER 4 WE HAVE PROBLEMS WITH ARE STILL POWER SUPPLY ISSUES BUT ALITTLE MORE IN DEPTH WILL POST WHEN WE FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM.

Is normally some leaky capacitors that failed on the majority of power supplies on these TVs.

Lightning can cause serious damage. You will surely want to get a professional diagnoses. What is damaged depends on where the surge came in at, and the intensity of the surge. If the surge came in through the power cable, most likely your power supply board has damage. But I have seen situations where the surge came in though an HDMI or coax connection and just take out the main board. But the moral of the story is to get a proper diagnoses, you could have several boards damaged.

Check in the menu to see if the set has a setting for speaker ON or OFF, previous owner may have been using a surround sound or other system that can require the speakers in the set to be set to OFF.

There are three major types of TV transmissions and they are not compatible unless the manufacturer lists them as such. Only a few sets are universally usable across the planet.You mentioned Europe but not where you and the set originated so not much help available beyond the above.If bought in the USA, it won't decode any signals originating in Europe.You may be able to find a converter that can receive signals there but supply a compatible video-audio signal but that is also questionable.

Symptoms of a Defective or dying Power supplies on LCD TVs.
1. Light(s) on the front panel are behaving not normal example, blinking, amber color or not steady, fainting, etc.
2. TV not turning ON properly.
3. TV turns OFF by itself.
4. Needs to be unplug to many times to make it work.
5. Humming or high pitch noise heard through speakers or at the back of the TV.

the power cord is the same as a computer power suply. Can be found at a computer store and its really cheap.

Some of the parts of it have loose contact that needs to be solder. Ask for a repairman to check and have it solder.

I have a working motherboard from a broken screen LCD.
The smoke could have been from the capacitors in the power supply and not the main board. I would suggest to inspect the power supply as well for bulging or leaky capacitors that fail most of the time.
