1. check the drivers update for you device
This is found at the manufacturers site.
2. See if your device is compatible with the OS (operating system) on your laptop.
3. Check the connecting cable to see if you have a broken wire inside the "strain relief".
The cord at this point will have a puffy part that indicate that there is a broken cable.
My Firebox was working, then I heard some sort of
If you understand the working of the power circuit and have a multi-meter and soldering tools you can possibly do the repairs yourself. Be advised this could be dangerous. The power circuit may possibly still have charged capacitors which can discharge and cause injury or death. The popping sound you heard was most likely a capacitor or Zenor Diode pop when it went out. You will need to find the faulty part and replace it.

Doesn´t work anymore
Hi. Forgive me for asking, but did you try unplugging everything, including the firewire, and plugging it in again?
If you try this and it doesn't work, try shutting your laptop down gracefully, then unplug all the Firebox connectors including the electricity. Wait about 10 seconds, then reboot your laptop. Don't open your recording software yet.
Connect the electricity and the firewire as described in the Firebox manual, and then open your recording software. If this doesn't work, something might be wrong with the Firebox.
The problem you have happens once in a while with mine--it seems to be connected with overheating or something. Anyone else have this problem?
Good luck!
I have a firebox and
the two firewire ports are for daisy chaining.
you can connect another firebox to the one you already have so that you get more i/o.
definition:
- A daisy chain is an interconnection of computer devices, peripherals, or network nodes in series, one after another. It is the computer equivalent of a series electrical circuit. In personal computing, examples of "daisy-chainable" interfaces include Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) and FireWire, which allow computers to communicate with peripheral hardware such as disk drives, tape drives, CD-ROM drives, printers, and scanners faster and more flexibly than previous interfaces.
The main advantage of the daisy chain is its simplicity. Another advantage is scalability. The user can add more nodes anywhere along the chain, up to a certain maximum (16 in SCSI-2 or SCSI-3, for example). A daisy-chain network can be long in terms of the distance from one end to the other, but is not well suited to situations where nodes must be scattered all over a geographic region. In such a case, the cables must zig-zag around, and the overall length of the network can become huge compared with the actual distances between the nodes. This can cause the network to operate slowly for users near opposite ends of the chain.
