Its your software, try to reset the PoS software you are using. you could also first test by using note pad or any text editor. with your barcode scanner connected, close all open applications, open a black note pad and scan to the note pad. check if it does double scan still to confirm.

have you tried using another code, sometimes new cord can still be faulty. if you try another cord the same problem comes up then the scanner port might have develop fault

Jaquino, there is a programming bar code to reset the device to factory settings in the user guide. I know you said that it is reading other bar codes like they are not programming bar codes, but have you tried this bar code? Usually it works, even when the device is totally hosed, unless there is some kind of hardware failure.
