What you are smelling is the drive belt. If the roller isn't spinning the belt will slip - your high rev sound. This can be caused by the roller being miss aligned in the square slot or hair or string has gotten wrapped in the bearings.
Make sure that power is removed. Remove the roller and with a flat blade screwdriver work the end caps off of the roller and remove any string/hair. While it is out, inspect the belt or wear and signs of slipping (a polished look). A worn belt will be curved in the middle where a new one is flat. Taking note of the belt side of the roller and reinsert the roller into it's slots. Make sure it is fully seated. It should spin with a little resistance but without any gritty feeling from the bearings.
im not an expert , but it could be the bruhes or bearings on the motor , other wise , lose conections , check manuel , go to hoover on internet for ansers
If the cable is broken, you should just be able to replace it. The cable comes with a "mushroom type" button at the top that will slide into the "actuator" Take off the 2 screws on the back compartment just above where the power chord goes into the machine. The top of the handle will slide off toward the back of the machine and you can see where the cable connects and how the power switch is activated.

There is no answer for that. You must have vary thick padding on plush carpet. Usually the highest setting is high enough. Is it hard to push and pull?
