My Hoover windtunnel does not

After the screws are removed, the handle will slide.Removing the handle assembly should be easy after removal of the two screws. It may be binding or hanging up on the self-propel cable...or the plastic may just be stuck/binding. Note that the handle slides in and out of the vacuum unit along the same axis as the two screws (i.e. slides straight off the back towards you when you are standing behind the vacuum). Try to pry it off gently w/thin-bladed screwdriver or butter knife.Do it gently and carefully. This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

How do you remove the Handle from the Hoover Windtunnel Deluxe to replace the switch?

Removing the handle assembly should be easy after removal of the two screws. It may be binding or hanging up on the self-propel cable...or the plastic may just be stuck/binding. Note that the handle slides in and out of the vacuum unit along the same axis as the two screws (i.e. slides straight off the back towards you when you are standing behind the vacuum). Try to pry it off gently w/thin-bladed screwdriver or butter knife (careful now!). Not sure about the smoking issue but you may have a severely plugged filter and the unit is overheating as a result. Check that out immediately/first to avoid fire or expensive motor burnout.

What are the replacement filter

  1. The bags have different letters on them now for reasons like Hepa Filtration and Hypo Allergenic. Most of the upright style bag are interchangeable and same with the canisters. If you are really unsure of what to get bring the full one to the store with you or write down what it says on it as well as the type of machine with the serial Number.
  2. You could also check your manual and see if it tells you in there.
  3. If you do not posses the manual yopu can get one on line at WWW.pronto.com.
  4. I hope this helps and please vote for me on your way out. Thanks for choosing Fixya.com...have a nice day

No other way but to open to access the switch and first of all use a good switch cleaner to try if the contacts gets clean . check the continuity and repeat. Refitted it tight so that when you switch the lever moves to contact. If not there is no way but to replace the switch.

Belt replacement

Hello :
1:Unplug your Hoover vacuum. Turn the vacuum up-side-down and place the motor and vacuum portion on a counter top with the handle hanging down toward the floor. This makes it easy to work on the underside of the vacuum portion of the machine.
2:Locate the two plastic release levers near the front wheels of the vacuum. On most machines you will only need to push these levers outward with your thumbs to release the bottom panel of the vacuum. On certain older models, there are two screws that will need to be removed with a screwdriver. Once released, remove the bottom plate.
3:Locate the drive belt. Unless the belt is broken completely, it will be plainly visible. One end of the belt loops around the shaft of the vacuum's motor and the other end wraps around the vacuum's beater bar. The belt is in a modified figure 8. Use your fingers to stretch the belt slightly and remove it from the small shaft of the motor which will be almost dead center under the vacuum.
4:Remove the roller (the beater bar) that is across the front edge of the vacuum. In most models you can remove the bar by simply pushing it forward slightly and then lifting it up out of the U groove that it is held in. In some models you may need to use your screwdriver to push aside two clips that hold the bar in place.
5:Remove the belt (if attached) from the bar and then clean the bar. The bar may have hair and bits of carpet wrapped tightly around it, especially at the ends where the accumulated mess could prevent the bar from spinning freely. Use scissors or a utility knife to carefully clean off all hair and other debris. Make certain that the roller rolls smoothly and easily.
6:Place the new belt around the roller, fitting it into the groove in the middle of the bar. Replace the bar in the machine. In most models, the bar should simply drop down into the U grooves that hold it. Give the belt half a twist (like the figure 8) and then loop the free end around the shaft of the motor.
7:Replace the bottom of the vacuum and push the retaining tabs back in place with your thumbs or screw in the two screws that hold the bottom on. Turn the machine over, plug it in, and it should be working like new.
Things You'll Need: Replacement belt Screwdriver (for some models) Scissors Utility knife
Warning:
1:If your machine makes a screeching noise when you turn it on, then turn it off and unplug it immediately. Turn it over and check to see that the bar is seated properly before turning it back on again.
2:Never work on your vacuum if it is plugged in.
I hope this will help .

Hoover Wind tunnel supreme, loss of suction
posted by bazballfan on May 01, 2008
Hello, I purchased two of these models in late 2007 and after changing the bags on each of them I have little to no suction with the vacuum. The hose is fine and I have taken them apart and there is no obstruction in the hose or in the base.
These worked so well and now they don't do anything. The bag isn't filling much and the simplest things can’t be vacuumed up
Please help me to fix this

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.

Sorry you are having a problem, it sounds lie you have done almost everything, but just in review it could be some of these problems:
Belt change – every 4 to 6 months
Are the brushes in good shape
Where does your suction drop off
Is the bottom plate securely on the bottom
Are there any gaskets that are broken or leaking
Is the bag installed securely
Did you check for any clogs or obstructions
Is the filter clean
Feel free to contact your local vac dealer in your area.
So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

U5470-900 stuck switch

I had the same problem twice already. The first time it was under warranty and my local vac & sew shop fixed it for free. The second time was shortly after warranty expired, so I just bought the switch and replaced myself. Have only had it for 2 years, so we'll see if I have to replace the switch again in a year.

Dark marks on carpet after using hoover

these dark marks are burn marks from the beater bar itself. most walmart, kmart, and target shelf vacuums from hoover, dyson, and any cheeper vacuum has a hard bristle system. I've noticed even on the high end hoovers as well that they do the same thing. the best way to save your carpets is to see if there is a replacement beater bar that can be substituted for your vacuum. i dont know what style of beater bar that particular one is but check with your local vacuum repair center to see if they have something with softer brushes you can use insted otherwise i would recommend a new vacuum with softer bristles. usually something that is half as stiff as what is already on yur unit. you culd also try lifting the hight setting as a temporary solution.

On the back, take the hose off, inside the duct you can see a disc,(it is on the bottom of the duct) it may be filmed over with dirt, that is the sensor, clean it off then try again. If it still comes on, then it may be bad or you have a clog in the hose or the dirt inlet by the brush roll.
