Can i install a second hard drive and memory card

Yes this drive will become a slave drive and will need to be connected up to ribbon cable inside computer. There should be a spare connector on one of the cables comming from either cd-rom or the master hard drive... on the back of your new drive there is a small 2 pin connector which if you look onto most drives that u must set it as a slave drive

We are unable to load window xp on hard disc,

I think this model is still an IDE type. You set the 32GB limit then jump the settings to read the full capacity of the drive. If you are trying to load XP OS from a blank drive.

First prime the hard drive, you can do low level formatting and use third party software to partition and format the drive. on FAT32 partition you can only use 8GByte to make the drive bootable. Make it primary if I remembered it correctly and active. Or use the NTFS format.

You can use also if it have the manufacturers' hard drive utilities to check the hard drive integrity. I know they have it. It also equip with zero fill to renew chain and links of the drive. Then partition, format, primary and active. Then load your OS.

Check also your CD disc integrity, scratches do make a lot of troubles. And also your cdrom/dvdrom drive.

I AM TRYING TO REPLACE SEGATE BARRACUDA 7200.7

If your u8 has an operating system installed, yes, you can do that.
Be sure to boot the u8 in Safe Mode to copy your files.

I would also recommend checking the copied files for viruses before you use them.

If your external drive is connected to your computer, you can simply 'send to' or copy and paste.
Click on 'My Computer' and you will see the list of drives. You can then copy the files from their current folder and then paste to the external drive.
You can even 'drag and drop' the files!
Easy to do!!

Does the external hard-drive copy and backup

No, installed software cannot be copied just like that. in order to use install software installed on one hard driver to another you must clone the hard driver and of course you may jot want to do that. You may copy the files but you will not get the software installed.

Possible ST380011A hard drive crash

it really looks like your hard drive is giving up on you. happend to me a few times so far (have a shitload of copmputers) and happends only with drives i get sent via UPS. when i order them via FedEx they last so long until i replace them due size limitations. Looks like UPS thoses them around harder. i thnk i read once that they drop the packages pretty much all the time from about 3 feet in general. create an image of your harddrive while you still can and just transfer it onto a new one and you will be all set.

Bios sees slave drive but XP will not accept it!

Do you have the option to set the start time on the HD bios 1 second behind the MB bios? I think if you can find that option you will fix your problem. The Bios on your board will see the drive but during normal boot, Xp drivers take over to run the hard drive so if you can slow the HD bios to 1 second behind the board bios this will fix your problem.

Hi, I have barracuda 7200.7 ST380011A HDD. I use

Hello,

Wow! I hope no one was injured. If the info is retrieviable, I recommend intalling a new hard drive with an os install on it. Set the jumpers on the "flame" hard drive to slave, connect as a second hard drive and power on your system. Hopefully no flames and all systems go. You simply copy the file from the second drive to the new drive.

NOTE: Without reinstalling the software from a disk, you will need to point any apps that need the old file to the NEW location of the file. (i.e.- if MS Ofiice Word is on the old drive and you open a Word doc, you may need to tell the location of the MS Office file you want to use.)

Good Luck
