Owner's manual? Troubleshooting section? It needs cleaning, pulling the thread out, you may need a magnifier and tweezers to pull the bits of thread, possibly something like a dental tool to make sure it is clean. May need same thing on the bottom side if you can get to it. If you do not have manual, perhaps MFG website, or manualslib.com you will probably need it again.

The stitches for zig Zag and all utility stitches are upside down. The zig zag is on under side?

make sure the bobbin is pushed forward so the belt will move the bobbin

sounds like the motherboard is having a problem and needs to be checked

The winder ring has most likely broken or come off. This part is not easily installed by a home user as the machine has to the taken apart to replace it.

Check that you are using a ballpoint needle, designed for knits. Also, be sure that the thread is not 100% cotton thread.

Clean the machine, especially the bobbin and bobbin case area and around the feed dogs. Take all the thread off the top of the machine, including thread off the spool pin. Raise the presser foot. Rethread the top with the presser foot UP, which lets the thread get between the two tension disks. Put the foot down to sew, and hold the ends of the bobbin and top threads together behind the presser foot for the first 2-3 stitches in each seam. Have you released the presser foot lift?

try to rethread the machine all the way back to the spool of thread and check the top and bottom tensions on scrap of same fabric

Try checking the clutch on the motor or maybe a faulty drive belt

The Brother 270D uses an LED light. Part number XC3503021. The assembly costs about $25. I do not believe this is a user installable part.

Bobbin won't spin in hook? .. you may have something blocking the thread 'path'...or sensors? Try threading manually, right through with some unwaxed floss... while the machine is turned off.. or better still.. as you do each thread 'tension' area... check with a flashlight to see there isn't anything lodged (old threads caught anywhere...) when was the last time you had your machine cleaned?

You might have a piece of the needle lodged in the shuttle where the bobbin goes in or some thread under the shuttle. If so clear out very gently to unjam the shuttle so it will be free again to spin the bobbin. Use the hand wheel not the presser foot.

There's a possibility of it being related. I would need more information though.

A client of mine had this same problem. The driver seemed to be installed correctly in device manager (start, run, type "devmgmt.msc") press enter. I tried many things to get it to work. Then I downloaded the Windows Vista setup files on the brother site. That fixed the problem. I will post full step by step instructions @ http://rivertownnetworking.com

You probably mean the bobbin case, (the black part that the bobbin goes into). It shows you in the instruction book.
