Machine error code 6A what that means?( Brother mfc 8440)

I argued on the phone with a BROTHER REP. that he should give the codes and directions to reset the machine, he refused time and time again, saying that this means physical damage to the machine an re-setting it is impossible to help, but i insisted, and it did fix the problem and the error went away.
here is what you should do, unplug for 10 sec. press and hold on the menu key while you plug it back in untill you see the screen "parameter init" press 99 and wait, this is what i did and it fixed the problem !!

I have a mfc-8440, 5

This is very easy to solve. Remove the drum and toner cartridge. Look into the machine where they sat. Now look up and you will see (a little aukward but its there) a glass plate the width of an A4 sheet of paper. Run your finger accross it. Look at your finger and will probably be dirty. This is the window the laser beam passes thru to hit the drum. When its dirty it does not allow enough ;light to the drum hence a weak beam and light printing.
simples?

Replacing Brother MFC-8440 Fuser

To remove the fuser - remove the tray at the bottom and the back tray (4 screws, 2 either side) lift out the phone line box on the right (looking from the back - 2 screws) and swing it out of the way (careful as cable isn't too long) 2 screws either side of the fuser (long black object at the bottom) unplug the halogen lamp (white plug on left) and small 5 wire plug on right, and lift out fuser unit.

When i turn on my brother mfc 8440 it is saying

For the error code "7a" to be fixed permanently, you need to ensure that the main PCB is fine and is working in good condition.
If the error code is caused due to malfunctioning of the main motor, then you need to check the whole setup by connecting it with another motor.
In this case, make sure that there is no mechanical load present on the main board.
While fixing this error code, you will notice that the motor runs slowly initially and then picks up the speed later.

No solution, but I have the same problem. THe printer starts up fine, I hear no grinding noises or other "funny" nioses, and then displays no error message... UNTIL I ask it to print. Then I get a message that says, "Pls (please) Open Cover". I open the cover and it says "Please Close Cover". I close the cover and it says, "Please Open Cover"and this happens forever! Does anyone have any ideas? Can anyone help me?Stefan
