hello graham the fault could be down to the module board the controls the motor speed. not sure where it's ;ocated on your model but the board usually sits at the back of the washer may wires coming off it hope it helpsregardsshaun
It's a good machine. Well done for keeping it that long. It sounds like maybe it thinks the door is still open. (What happens if you intentionally try to start the program with the door open - It the result exactly the same? If it is, then it's probably the door interlock sensor.
If this is the case then you may find that a couple of good slams of the door will free off anything taht is sticking. Otherwise, you may have to check to see if there is a wire off the sensor (They do fall off sometimes) or.. after 13 years, it may need a new door sensor
Be sure that BOTH hot and cold water are turned on and flowing. The smell can be resolved by running washing machine cleaner (not just soap) through the machine once a month or so.
Of course it can! If someone can put it together, you can get it apart.
Here's a link to another site where this problem has already been tackled. http://www.howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=22035 One thing I liked about this site is that there was an ad for bearings on the page, and might help you also. Bearings are also available at a source called Motion Industries and WW Grangier. Hotpoint vendors may have a supply on hand as well. All you'll need is the number stamped onto the bearing race to get a suitable replacement. Sales shops that also provide service may tell you that the bearings and tub assemblies have to be sold as a unit, as the bearings may be rubber coated, but this isn't true. You can purchase any bearing required from the sources listed, or by performing a google search with the bearing number and selecting a source near you. A word to the wise; replace both bearings! Best regards, --W/D--
if the motor is sparking ( !!!!! ) -- unplug the unit and call a appliance repair man to repair the washer. or if it is new and under warranty, contact the seller for service. ( DO NOT use until it is fixed -- this is a very serious fire hazard !!! ).
Power off the mains.The
filter is located behind the silver plate at the back of the machine at
the
bottom.Four screws hold it on.Drain
out all the water. The filter is inside
the big black rubber hose attached between the pump and the main drum.
Remove
the plastic clip holding it to the pump unit and then the metal cir clip
holding it to the main drum. Inside is a white molded cone and a big
white ball
which floats. You will find a lot of junk here, clean out thoroughly. To
refit
put white cone back inside just as you found it, at the bottom, fit ball
back
into the cone. Attach to the bottom to the drum and re-fasten the cir
clip.
Finally reconnect the gator to the pump unit and tighten the plastic
clip.Check out the pump too before reconnecting.

Seems that your pump may need replacing. remove bottom panel at back of machine. You now have access to your pump. Using suitable screwdriver or grips remove retaining clips on pump pipes. Tilt Machine forward and unscrew 2 screws holding pump in position. Then remove 2 wires that go to pump. Ensure machine is unplugged. The pump is an Ask
Ok - I will answer my own problem seeing as though I have now fitted it!
1. remove door (2 screws)
2. There is a tensioned wire loop holding the front part of the boot seal in position. - prize off the plastic cap at the 11 o'clock position, all will become clear and you will be able to remove the wire loop.
3. Remove top of washing machine (2 allen screws behind caps at the front.
4. Remove soap dispenser draw and any screws holding the front control panel and top of the door.
5. Remove bottom front plinth (just pull it off) underneath are a couple of screws holding the front panel part of the machine, remove these.
6. Remove front of machine giving you access to the steel band which locks the other end of the boot seal in position. Slacken this band right back using a nut-spinner screwdriver. Pull off the old boot and clean the lip ready for fitting of the new boot.
7. Fit new boot seal using a squirt of washing up liquid as lubricant if needed (mine didn't) to reseat the seal.
8. Refit and tension steel band.
9. Re-assemble front panel, ease boot back into front lip position then refit wire loop using a suitable pair of pliers/molegrips to crimp the retaining plastic cap back in situ.
