Knocking during spin and now tripping electricity on startup

It sounds as though you may have a problem with the heater, either it has come loose or been damaged during the noisy section of the spin which could have been a coin or foreign object in the drum, assuming there is no problem with the bearings. It's best if you can test the heater with an electrical test meter having first removed the wires, place one connector on one of the terminals and touch the heater casing with the other, if you get a reading the heater is shorting out. If it is the heater it may have been forced out of the front plate which could have caused a crack in it so check for any damage

What range should my Schnieder Mutimeter be reading for checking the heating element on a Hotpoint WM56? Thanks

The range is not all that important - all you really want to do is use a range that will check for continuity of the heating element to ascertain its usefulness.

Hotpoint WM56 front loading. Machine

Ours did exactly the same. The drum bearing's worn and the spider had broken causing a noise like a road drill. Check out the video on Youtube from Apart4U. It's a pig of a job though.

The drum on my Hotpoint WMA454 appears to be

What you have probably got is an article of clothing that has found its way in between the two drums. Remove the belt without forcing it then carefully retry and rotate the drum. If spungy, yes something is stuck between the drums. Shortest possible way to remove the obstruction is to remove the heating element and carefully look into the hole once element is out. 90% of the time the clothing is jambed around the element. Use long nosed pliers or a wire with a hook and remove. Retry and turn drum. If free to rotate, replace element and retry once all is assembled.

Drive belt on hotpoint wm56 keeps coming off when

Make sure belt is reasonably tight, and it is in the center of the drum pulley, if it still comes off, then I would suspect that the drum bearings are worn, or the drum is running out of alighnment, or the motor bearings are worn, if it is noisy when you spin the drum by hand, then the bearings have definately failed.

Thanks.

Why dont my machine take the soap powder

Assuming that the bit the water is going into is the prewash dispenser (rather than a bleach or conditioner dispenser), why not just put the powder into there? Some of these machines can be a bit illogical about where the main wash powder is meant to go - sometimes even varies depending on which cycle you're running. If you can find a place that will take the powder at the right time, your problem is solved. If the instructions say different, it might even be them that's wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. A.
