Why does my HP vs17

this old monitor has 2 issues. 1: it has CCFL tubes that love to burn out (backlamps) most this old are long go, yell, dim.,blinking or DEAD. 2: push the menu button on front of mon. turn off power saver. 3: if the PC goes to sleep, or hibernete mode (parked) then that is 100% normal if you dont like feature then go to windows control panel click power, ICON and turn off all monitor sleep /hibernate modes. that assumes windows, no OS stated. if the lamps are dead, use flash light pointed to sceen, see data. ? bingo for bad CCFT tubes. as seen here http://www.pcdied.com/monitors.html#flashlighttest

Turn on VS 17X Flat Panel Monitor and get a white screen Power light is on

old VS17 LCD.with nasty CCFL back laps. did you know most CCFL LCD are now dead, from age, most that is , used every day most the day. 20,000 hours life. well its bad, and you want to fix a DEVICE that has no documents to support it, (schematics are not sold for it) the operators manual is easy to find, posted links here to it vast times. the other odd thing on this monitor is the power saver in its OSD turn it off first and the timer by same name. so it has the fact china, caps, desease as most did then. learn that in electronics, when a cap shorts, it then blows up other parts, that are very hard to find, and buy, now. some parts are contract parts (HP secret) with no real P/N used. no standard P/N used, like chips and diodes and transistors. sure there may be a fuse, did you look for one? why not buy a LCD with LED back lamps, that have 3 good features, 1: it dont have CCFL 2010 and newer, wider the screen the more true this year. 2: and the LED back lamps last forever. mostly. 3: the caps wont blow up. the bad cap era is over. buying this invites same problem set. see used on fleabay, 2007 date stamped,\ fuses are marked, Fn (F for fuse and n for a number ID) why bother? the labor to fix it is 5 times prices of new one. buy refurb at walfart. v17-gdssgtwfs4dasmmwhq3caowt-4-0.jpg https://www.walmart.com/search/?cat_id=0&page=1&query=computer+monitor+refurbished&sort=price_low&typeahead=computer+monitor+refurb#searchProductResult just be careful to look up any monitor to be sure 2 things 1: made 2010 or newer. 2: has the words LED back lamps in the spec. win, win.

My HP vs 17 LCD monitor is stuck to my desk.

spilled coffee or cola on the the desk soak it in water, with 1 drop dish soap. let is side there, even lay down paper towels soaked. then in 15 to 30min, it will un glue. this is not a PC question, or electronics pure mechanics. 101, even ash tray or vase can do that, if sugar drinks spilled.

Our monitor wont turn on

If not turning on at all and you have confirmed that power is reaching its innards then the most probable culprit is the units power supply.

It won't power on

Should also check the connection between the monitor and computer. If something is wrong there the monitor will not turn on - only the standby light will be on.

The monitor requires it to be switched on & off

It sounds like your power supply on the monitor is starting to give out. Those are very difficult to replace if built into the monitor itself. You may not have much choice but to purchase a new monitor.

I am unable to set 1280 x 1024 resolution in

You're going to have to make sure you have the right video drivers for your computer installed. Usually running windows update and installing all optional updates will resolve this. Also make sure that the refresh rate is set to what is native to the display, which would be 75hz for that model

Random pixels wrong color

This not good, the problem is in the video processing board that is part of the LCD panel, not cost effective for repair, cheaper to replace.

HP vs17 (PK657AA) problem: the image is displayed for 3 seconds

first try entering VGA mode in the startup menu. u can get the startup menu by pressing the F8 key immediately after the POST screen. if the screen stabilizes try changing the resolution to 1024 by 768 which should work in normal mode. if that doesnt work then the monitors internal bulbs may be burnt. an electrician may fix this problem for you.

Computor keeps trying to restart,monitor

Probably the problem is not with the monitor. Your computer is defective and probably the lines appear because your VGA is defective.
To make sure your monitor is OK, you can connect it to another computer.
First check replacing the RAMs and then VGA.

I would go for a USB headset. Logitec makes a nice one. Don't go for earbuds--the logitec has soft headset and mic built in.

The monitor goes to a black screen right after it

Well I know whats wrong whether or not your up to fixing it is another question one of you capacitors inside needs to be replaced have seen this over and over again when monitors get hot or stay on for long periods of time. Would have to take it apart look for any capacitors that have bulges in them and replace those by un soldering it and soldering in a new one. IF you dont find any swollen caps then there is a inverter for the bulb that also likes to fail. Either way if your not up to it take to the shop.
