Dryer runs but only heats sometimes
your dryer vent could possibly be stopped up also you will need to have the thermistor and t-stat changed but make sure the dryer vent that goes out is not clogged. the more hot air out the better the dryer works.

Will not heat up
Beyond checking for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker (find the dryer circuit breaker and turn it off, then back on) I would suggest having a qualified Service Technician look at your dryer. Your dryer operates on 240VAC. One leg of power (L-1, 120VAC) operates the motor and timer. The second leg (L-2, 120VAC) ends up at one side of your heating element while L-1 is on the other side. L-2 goes from your power cord to the juction block, to the motor centrifugal switch and finally to one connection of the heater. L-1 goes from your power cord to the junction block, then through the operationg thermostat and the high limit thermoastat, then possibly a thermal fuse and finally to the other connection on the heating element. L-1 and L-2 together supply 240VAC. No heat at all can be a fault with ANY of the components mentioned.

Hotpoint dryer was moved, now only clicks, won't start
Rough handling may have the drum belt to get binded. Try turning the drum by hand to see if it turns free or is locked. This may align the belt to the motor or may just take off the belt altogether from the motor. You will have to get inside access to see whats up. Once inside realign the belt to the motor and pulley assembly. Then CHECK ALSO that no wire connections inside came apart during moving. Good luck

The dryer will not stay running.
When you hold the start switch you are energizing the start winding of the motor. If the motor does not take off and run, the most likely cause is the centrifugal switch inside the dryer's motor is not being switched. It is switched by a spring loaded collar on the motor shaft which moves when the motor starts to run, and again back when it stops. Often times this collar begins to stick on older dryers. Sometimes you can free it up by cleaning the dryer motor with an air compressor and hitting the collar with some spray lube. This only works some times. The only sure fix is to replace the motor, which unfortunately is rather expensive and a fair amount of work. Please don't bother rating this, as anything but a Fix-Ya lowers my score.

Where do I find the heating element in my hotpoint dryer
Heating element is behind the drum. Disconnect power. Use putty knife to release 2 spring clips holding top at front edge of dryer. Swing top back. Remove two screws holding dryer front to sides near open top. Swing dryer front to the side. (you don't have to disconnect the door switch wires) Remove plastic tub block at top center of opening. Release belt. Pull up on back of drum, then pull drum out through the open front of dryer.
