20 Most Recent Xerox XG-91D 19" LCD Monitor Questions & Answers

I have also fixed my wife's Xerox monitor Thanks to all the posts on this website !!! I just fixed it yesterday. It was fairly easy.

I layed my on a clean towel. Like they said remove the stand first. Then the 2 screw's on the back side near the bottom. Then push the glass down about a 1/4'' .It took a couple of tries to get the glass to push down. Then lift the glass off the front of the monitor. Lay the monitor on it's back. There are 6 screws that hold the screen in place. Gently lift the screen up, on the right side are 2 sets on wires to disconnect. On the upper left side there is a small ribbon cable gently unplug it. Then you can lift the screen out. Now you will see a metal cover over the power supply board and the other board. There is about 6 scews to remove and then the metal cover will come off. The power supply board is on the right side. In order to remove the board you need to remove the screw holding the green ground wire down, It is on the lower left side next to where the black plug in, for the power cord plugs in. Now you need to gently pull that black plug up and pull the wires towards the right to get them out. On the power supply board there are 4 screws holding it down, also on the upper left side the board has a 6 pin connector where it plugs into the other board, gently pull it up. Now the board is out and you can take it to radio shack to get the capacitor's for it. I replaced, all 6 of the big ones and the 1 small one. I had to go to 2 stores to get all 6 of the big ones. Radio shacks item # for the 6 big ones is 272-1030 and the one small one is item # 272-1029. I also bought a pencil sodering iron and some soder they suggested. I spent $25.00 to fix my monitor. After reading the posts on here i figured i could do this. It took me about half a day to do this work. I also copied the posts to Microsoft Word on my computer so i could print out the posts to help me with doing this work. I also saw a few posts where some of you were asking for more help and directions on how to do this. So this is my way of thanking the people who already posted about fixing their monitor.

Thanks again for the post from Xeroxfixed posted Mar.16, 2008 and guest posted may 8, 2008 with out those that monitor would still be sitting in a box in the house collecting dust. Now it is on my wife's desk and she is happy to have it working again. We bought because she really liked the glass front on it.

Try a new cable. If any of the pins is slightly bent the monitor will not receive the correct signal to display. I would recommend a new cable even if you don'y see anything wrong with the old one.

Capacitor Lab Types of Capacitors Radial Electrolytic Capacitors This explains the different configurations of capacitors. You have the wrong type. The voltage is not that big a deal as long as it is not a huge difference.

Some capacitors looking flat are blown off inside. (Should check largeest one too)Use a tester to check the, again, first.If you can see light on power button (some do), then should replace main board.However, if monitor use a power supply looking an adapter type like laptop, check it also in case. It may be the internal backlight that is failing. When the display has failed but still has power, take a flashlight and hold it close to the screen, move the flashlight all around the screen and check if you can see anything. The display will be dark, but you should be able to make out the image that is there with the flashlight technique. If you can see an image on-screen, then your backlight has failed and you will need to replace the monitor. Weather or not you see an image is not a critical issue, but a tool to verify if the backlight is off or some other issue is causing the problem.
Note, it may be difficult to detect an image on the un-light display, for example if you have a dark image as your desktop background. So make sure to fully scan your display (top to bottom, and left to right covering the entire screen) with the flashlight technique in order to see any image on-screen.

Try hooking the monitor up to another computer or laptop, do you get the same results?

First be sure that the problem is with your monitor and not with your computer, try plugging in a different monitor to the computer or a different computer to the monitor to isolate the problem. Often when leaving computers sitting for weeks at a time dust can build up in them that can cause fans to jam and computers to not operate correctly. Try dusting out your computer with some canned air dusters. If the problem is with the monitor it will likely need to be returned. Hope this helps!

The connectors may be on tight but it may have broken conductors inside the cable assembly itself. Already try new video cable?

PC video resolution is too high, it should be set to the native resolution of the monitor.

If it is a "blown, open" fuse, you have to ask the question "WHY is it open in the first place!!! Haven't you been to YOUTUBE yet? Lots of video clips of DIY repair to view and learn from!!! Yes, power IS getting to monitor, but power supply (AC to DC smps) not working!! Do your research at YOUTUBE first so you can tell us tech's more information on just what you found when you visually inspected the power supply board in your unit. Keep this in mind at all times!!! Your monitor isn't ANY DIFFERENT than any other "cold cathode fluorescent lamp, back-lit lcd monitor in it's basic design and operation!!!! 12fixlouie
