Could be that the heads need cleaning, or, as it's a fairly old camcorder, it may just be wearing out, I'm afraid.

This JVC page has drivers for DR-D53AG and GR-D73AG, you may want to try one of those. They may only be for Windows up to XP though. DownLoad Drivers
