Jvc camcorder gr dv 500us-300-2

The most likely cause for this is a damaged or defective flexible ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the camera body and will require disassembling the camera and LCD assembly to repair. This can be done fairly inexpensively but it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be repaired by a qualified service technician.

I have a JVC Digital video camera model GR-DV500U

I presume that you are using desk top computer, thus it has bigger connector. Solution, have find this connector so that one end fit to your cam and the other end fits to your PC. This connector have the same format(protocol) and easy to find in computer store. USB streaming is ok for this model for earlier windows OS, haven't try with windows 7 yet. hope it helps

Gr-dvl-520u trying to record or playback tape it goes into safeguard mode within 5 seconds. alternatly pressing play and still every 3 seconds advanced the playback without it going into safeguard mod

According to http://www.techlore.com/article/10974/JVC-Camcorder-Stuck-in-Safe-Mode/,

"JVC notes that you are also given a malfunction code when the unit is placed into safeguard. If it displays code 01, 02, or 06 you should remove
the battery and powersupply and wait for a while. Code 03 and 04 indicate that you should eject and reinsert the tape.

If neither of these solutions work, your only alternative is to bring it to a shop or send it to JVC for diagnosis or repair. Unfortunately, there is no other way to clear the condition."

If you are getting E03 or E04 errors on every tape you try, it sounds like a servicing is required.

Using usb

Make sure the computer contains the drivers for the camera.
If you would be using FireWire (IEEE1394) it would be no problem.

Check the box the camera came with (or Online) and install the required software. If you have done all that and it still doesn't work try to change the port you connect to. If it still doesn't work you may have an incompatibility issue or a corrupt USB driver which is resolved by reinstalling your computer USB drivers and camera drivers.
Hope it helps.

Can i get parts

Does the camera playback a recorded tape that you can see on either a monitor or the LCD? If it does this proves the circuitry that makes the image is OK and it could be there is a problem with the CCD image device.
The Iris could be stuck closed from dirt or foreign matter in the optical block. The iris may have failed close.
The DF460 is a very good camera but the fact that it is a PAL model would make it hard for a shop to get it repaired. If you bought it in the US you should have a bill of sale and some kind of warranty card. Look at this and see if it say for export only. If it does someone sold you a no-no. If you bought it outside the US you will have to send it in to a JVC factory service center but I would called them first. My recommendation is to send it to the Atlanta, GA center. Go to www.JVC.com for their info. On this same site you can locate independant shops by putting it the model number (leave off the EK) and then you can call them to ask if they can work on PAL units. Many authorized centers take in PAL units. Try several zip code (Washington, DC would be the best zip because of the foreign agents, I mean foreign government workers there) I know the shops there will be happy to have you send it in to them and they will send it back to you. Look for a place named Strauss in DC. They are in business there since Lincoln.

Shuts the lcd down ?

Is it possible that the brightness of the LCD was turned down?
You might want to try turning it full bright. There are directions in the instruction book on how to do this.
Next select the viewfinder to turn on when you pull it out. Close the LCD panel and pul out the VF and look thru it in doors first and see if the picture is normal, now go outside while looking in the VF and see if the picture slowly goes dark. If it does looking at it this way then it would indicate that the Iris is closing too much. Go back inside.
In the menu there is an option to reset everything back to factory settings. Sometimes it is possible to have accidentally changed a setting while you were in the menu. Go thru the menu and execute all of the pages that have a reset option. Then test the camera again. If the image goes away in bright light it is possible that the adjustment settings for the Iris have been corrupted and the camera will need to be brought into an authorized JVC service center that has DVC camera experience and they will be able to readjust the Iris. It could also mean there is some kind of malfunction. If the image stays visible in the VF then the LCD might have just aged and lost its intensity to where you are unable to see it outside anymore. The DV5000 is 4 or 5 years old now?

Digital Resolution for 4x6

You will need all the pixels the camera can produce so set the camera for 1600 x 1200 Fine. That should produce a good 4 x 6 print.

Why won't my digital camera charge via USB anymore?

Take camera and its battery to a camera outlet, ask them to check the built-in rechargeable battery. Most outlets will help you with this, as its likely that if the battery has failed, you'll buy a replacement from the same dealer.

Not used my vid cam for a long time but when played back some tapes played great. The following day I tried playback on the tapes & they all showed a blue screen. No images What am I doing wrong?

not sure on this one but it might be the heads in your vid cam may need cleaning. or the tapes are not running straight on the heads or the rollers in side. if the vid cam has been in a cold place it can cause this fault as the heads may have a bit of damp. try putting a tape in and run it fast forword in play mode and see if starts to clear the playhead.if it does keep doing it until you see a clear picture. this could also be a head misalignment fault if it is you will have to take it to some one to have a look at. if any of the above does not work then you will have to take to some one to look at it. .
