The Sony DCR-TRV130 is a D8 digital camcorder which is not compatible with Hi8 camcorders. You need to have an Hi8 camcorder or DCR-TRV103 or similar camcorders that backward compatible with Hi8 camcorders.

That is the sort of cass my Sony Digital 8 takes, got 6 just last week, these are honestly the best Video camera made so far, nothing else on the market today records so good I can tell you, great stuff pleased you like filming with it.
Now shall I let you into a secret? I got my 6 8mm digital tapes from Argos in my local town, they cost about £17 for pack of 3 inc VAT.

It is my understanding that the camera won't playback those formats, timecode or not. There are VCR type units for the HI8 and other formats. They should be cheap on eBay now...

There is a switch inside the tape mechanism that tells the camcorder the cassette compartment is closed and to retract into the camera. It is the most likely cause for this malfunction and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. It is probably not worth fixing. You can likely get a new camera for less than your repair cost. If you want to watch your old tapes there are many places that will convert them to DVD.

Sorry, there is not. Once video is recorded over with this camera it is lost. I sincerely am sorry that you have lost that footage. We have done the same thing before and so I know how you feel.

You can use capture card to record from your tape to computer.see the picture its look.

For the TRV 130E model of camera what you can do is this;

For you to be able to transfer the video on your computer you need to have a video capture card PCIe for your computer and connect the Audio Video cable from your camera to computer.

DCR-TRV130 is not capable of playing back 8mm or Hi8 tapes recorded on analog camcorders. Digital recording playback only.

This is most likely something to do with the camcorder and not the tapes. Does the problem continue with brand new Hi8 tapes? If so, it sounds like something with the head is moving out of place a little. May need servicing in this case.
