For me, the alcohol sensor cleaning didn't work. I did some research on how the sensor works and it turns out the black stuff is conductive in low humidity and resistive in high humidity. That means the circuit need to be cloed to work,, cleaning off the black substrate would only open the circuit furthur, I cant understand why removing the black substrate is working for some people. After cleaning it to no avail, I tried bypassing (shorting) it. To test it I just took an ordinary pencil and filled in some conductive carbon where the black square was. And it worked. I could have bypassed the sensor by shorting the 2 solder contacts, but to reach it I would have to take it all apart. I'll make the bypass permanent when I have a day free.
Try this. Remove the memory stick your camera. If
there is a LOCK switch on the back of the Memory Stick Duo, please be
sure to set it to the unlocked position before attempting to delete or
write data to the stick. If the switch is left in the locked position
when attempting to delete or write, the data on the memory stick may be
damaged.
Tape mechanism problems can be quite complicated. This will require disassembling the camera to repair the tape mechanism and can be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. You can try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified service technician.

This code means
"FG fault during normal drum operations. Load the tape again, and perform operations from the beginning."
'C' indicates consumer-fixable problem. '31' indicates the fix method (remove casette). The 'FG' signal from the capstan motor is the tachometer signal that the camera uses to monitor the rotation of the capstan.
