Sony Handycam CCD-TRV58 Hi-8 Analog Camcorder1. Per the manual on esupport.sony.com- if the power is disconnected door won't open, and if the battery is the dead the door won't open.Plug it in and hopefully you can get the tape out.Did this work?

From my own experience with this, it looks ( or in your case doesn't look no pun intended) like its the shiny inner cassette head that are worn out or defective. That would explain sound and no video. If it is that, and a cleaning doesn't work its not cost effective to continue with that technology

This sounds like the LCD and CCT in the Lens is dead, not a cheap repair if this is the case, pop it to a camera shop like Jessops.

Yes my friend, relax I like many others have seen this message, it is shouting PLEASE CLEAN MY HEADS, so simply grab a cass head cleaner from your camera shop, put it in camera and let it run for time it tells you on the packet okay?

You can see if the flex cable came loose from where it plugs into the main board coming from the evf, "electronic view finder" most of the time it is the flex cable itself that requires replacement. You can buy one at Andrews Electronics in California. Larry's Electronics

tune your tv to av1 or av2 it should just pick up the vidio from there

My advice is that you should by a cleaning cassette. Put this in the camera and run it for 10 to 20 seconds only. running the cleaning cassette for a long time may damage the head.

Heads need cleaning, possible tension adjustment.

compartment located behind lcd. or on the bottom of camera. usually doesnt need replacing though. i guess its not keeping the date and time
