Sony Handycam Digital 8: won't accept tape

I was having the exact same problem with my sony handycam. I actually came across this website looking for the answer and noticed many people having the same problem but there was no solution to it.

I just happened to go to the sony website and decided to watch the tutorial on setting the camera back to the factory settings. It actually fixed the problem! I don't know if this will work for everyone or even how long it will work, but I figured it was worth a try. Good luck!

Every time I insert the tape, the screen says "Reinsert the tape"

make sure the camera internal battery is charged. using the ac charger plug the camera in for 24 hours. if the internal battery is dead then you will need to turn it in and have it replaced. that is why is says reinsert the tape

Why do I get the error code C:32:11 or C:31:42?

Does it try to eject the tape? Try a gentle help on that. The tape may have gotten snarled in the camera.

Handy cam hi8 dcr

Try removing the battery and charging it. Then put the battery back on the camera. This will reset the cassette system. The cassette should open or close depending upon what status it is in. Once you get the camera to eject fully, clean your heads with a dry head cleaner cassette for Hi8 video. If your camera is still eating tape, could be a broken pin or damaged heads.

"Re-attach the power source" but tape is stuck, door open

I had the same problem. First, depress the reset button, located on the camera body (where the LCD screen closes over it). It is hard to see at first. It is important that the camera be set to the OFF position. When the camera is whirring after the reset, then hit the EJECT button so the tape comes out. Take the tape out and insert it back. That's it. My camcorder worked fine and let me record or plaback once I followed those steps.

Cassette does not eject

Either the tape is jamed round sound head, or the door is stuck with somthing like a handle of the case on side of camera, but sounds like tape stuck, run film backward a little (not forward) as more tape will get stuck in forward motion.

I need a power cord where do I get one

Sony would be the logical place to start, go online to customer support and the technical department they may be able to provide the part. I would also check out a camera repair shop.

C:31:40 WON'T RECORD OR PLAY BACK

Error code 31:40 indicates a problem in the cameras tape transport system. This can be caused by several problems including the transmission gear in the tape mechanism not engaging properly, a defective clutch in the take-up spool or a faulty rotary mode switch. This will require disassembling the camera to repair and can be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be repaired by a qualified service technician.

The camera screen is white

I'm sorry that the Camcorder is not ejecting tape and the LCD screen is white. Please follow the troubleshooting steps provided below and check the operation:

1. Please turn ON the Camera with the help of AC Adapter and check the operation. 2. Perform Reset by following steps:

1. Locate the RESET button behind the LCD panel of the camcorder. 2. Use a pointed object (like a ballpoint pen) to press and hold the RESET button for 2-3 seconds. 3. After 2-3 seconds has elapsed, release the RESET button.

3. Perform a manual power reset by following the steps:

1. Turn off the camcorder. 2. Disconnect AC power adapter. 3. Remove the battery pack. 4. Move the POWER switch to the CAMERA position for 15 seconds. 5. Move the POWER switch to the OFF position. 6. Reconnect the AC power adapter or reinsert the battery pack. 7. Turn on the camcorder.

If the issue persists after following all the steps service will be required. You can find repair information and initiate service at:

On screen saying re attach

Does it have the battery in it? If so, plug the powercord in to charge. If not, put the battery in it. If it still doesn't work with battery and power cord: I would think either the battery or the powercord is not working properly. Most likely the powercord.
