I'am leaning towards the battery as the problem, but it would be worth while to check that the charger is putting out a voltage before you commit to a battery, a quick test by a repair shop is worth the time.

Based on my research, this camera does not offer the option of record speed.

They make a usb to rca converter box, that comes with a program. Do a search on camcorder vhs to dvd

Try the following:

1. Open the tape cover in full until it clicks.
2. Turn the camcorder on to "VCR Mode."
3. With the cover open and the camera set to "VCR mode," take battery out.
4. Connect to wall charger with no battery, and try loading tape again.

If that does not work try also following solution from camera hacker:

1. unplug camcorder AC cord
2. remove fat battery from back of camcorder
3. remove slim battery from under the LCD (it's the size of a nickle coin)
4. wait 2 minutes
5. plug AC into the camcorder
6. flip the camcorder into VTR mode
7. tape should automatically eject
8. viola, drink beer, be merry

My son has the same model camcorder so we are taking turns using the DC cable.

Here's the battery you need: http://www.batteries.com/productprofile.asp?appid=254536 It's not inside the camera, it's the rectangular black box located on the back of the camera. It should just slide off.

you will have to reset the camera or go into settings and find were to change it frome b/w to color

Hi, Try running the camera using the AC power (charger) instead of the battery. If the viewfinder works then, it is possible that the replacement battery somehow is not suited for your particular brand/model and is not capable of supplying all the need voltages/power. Try continuously charging the battery for 16 hrs at least to see if this will correct the problem. If even in using the AC power (adapter) instead of the battery, the view finder is still off, then you have a camera fault. Normal problem for this is the thin flexible flat cable that attaches the screen to the electronics inside the camera. In some case, it is the backlight of the display that is at fault. Question edited into written English with punctuation. The lens isn't black, the viewfinder is black. Connect it to a television or computer and see if playback and live recording is working. In that way you know the optics and the electronics are working. The viewfinder is a small LCD display screen with a magnifying glass in front of it. Take it to your local camera shop, they will know someone that still repairs these camcorders.
