Door Latch Spring

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (RVM1425BA03) here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

We have *critical* safety & disassembly info at our site, linked here: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

At times some butons don't work

You may have a bad keypad, which in many cases can be replaced.

A bad keypad may be worn out due to age, damaged, or it may have gotten wet or otherwise contaminated.

Moisture and contamination can be caused by not using the fan when boiling on the stove top (for over the range models), direct spraying of cleaners, by storing the microwave in an unheated garage or shed, or infestation.

I warn my customers to never spray cleaner directly onto the microwave keypad, since the liquid can get inside and "lock up" or even ruin the keypad or controller.

Hotpoint RVM1425BA-003 Microwave Oven Stovetop Light Does Not Work

The problem is almost certainly on the control panel, which we repair nationwide for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This often can affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inopoerable or stuck on.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and

disassembly information at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Removing light bulbs - HOW?

First of all, please be sure your oven is unplugged!

If the filament shorts, or if the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven, it can cause damage to the controller board reuslitng in lights that don't work or that won't shut off.

But back to your bulb removal problem... They are often tacked in place with hot glue.

If you can heat it up a bit with a hair dryer, it may soften the glue enough that you can unscrew the base with a good pair of needle nose pliers.

It may be helpful to out the tips of the pliers inside the bulb socket, spread the handles apart, then turn while holding the handles out.

Tubular 40-watt bulbs (40T6 1/2 /2), available in supermarkets and hardware stores, may also be used for replacements.

Will not heat product

You can but for the safety aspect I would get a qualified engineer.
If it's too expensive buy a new one, don't take the risk to save a few £/$.

THE MICROWAVE DOESN'T HEAT UP?

Is the unit under warranty? If not, you can try to remove the cover and see if there is a blown fuse in the section that powers the Magnetron. How old is the unit? Typically, no heating of food, indicates a bad Magnetron (tube).

Good Luck,

Hotpoint Model #RVM1425WA004

This uses a vacuum fluorescent display. Over time, they degrade in brightness until they're unreadable. GE does not make just that part available, so the whole "smart board" would have to be replaced. It's not too hard for a do-it-yourselfer but certain important safety rules must be followed, such as in "safety.txt" and "disassembly.txt" available at my Web site. You can order the smart board from Appliance Parts Pros for $149.16 at http://tinyurl.com/gv383

Hotpoint Microwave Model RVM1435BD 001- microwave comes on when I open the door.

Many microwaves have similar issues. Usually, (not always) only the light is on and the fan is running, not the section that produces the microwaves. This problem can be caused by the door switches that are out of alignment or a defective control board.

Sears sent me a diode for hotpoint microwave and a video for replacement and the video is different. Can't find the diode for MY Hotpoint rvm1435bk01 to see if it's the same to replace.

Most microwave diodes will work just fine from system to system. The most common ones I use are rated at 550ma. When you check your old diode what made you think it was bad? They are such a high rating you will not get a reading on it with a regular ohm meter. Mostly on HV rectifiers if it is not shorted ( Zero Ohms) it is probably good. If you have no high voltage then substitute it and see if you do get high voltage, then you know it was open. Follow the video and give it a try.

How can I get a copy of the manufacturer's installation instructions for a Hotpoint JX-81J over the range microwave oven?

JX-81J is the microwave recirculating charcoal filter for several models of GE and Hotpoint microwaves. The installation instructions will be available from the manufacturer with the model number of the microwave itself. One microwave that uses this filter is the RVM1535MMSA . See http://products.geappliances.com/ApplProducts/Dispatcher?REQUEST=HPSPECPAGE&Sku=RVM1535MMSA#tab1_ for all of the details on this microwave. The owner's manual, http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=39-40541-1.pdf , shows the installation of the filter on page 34. The guide for installing the microwave above the range is http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=39-40425.pdf . If you have a different microwave, add a comment with that model number. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells
