Internal fuse blown , replaced

There are three to four switches that monitor that microwave. If any of them are bad it won't work. More then likely it's the monitor switch. There's a primary and a secondary switch. Take the cover off and look for the tech sheet it will show you which ones they are. They are around the door latch area...good luck.

Yes you should replace the fuse which in the control department. You must remove the cover which is one unit the top, left and right panel.

Also sometime the bulb holder wires might have be loose or burned out and been disconnect so this have create an open circuit. So you can have a visual check of these wires but since you have the oven panel removed have a check of loose or overheated wires.

Take care to remove electric plug and avoid come in contact with the magnetron capacitor since this can evacuate instant high voltage and might burn your hands, and this hurts very bad for more than a week.

We have a link with the parts layout of your microwave which can help you.

Wont heat, burning rubber smell, hotpoint

If there is spark please do not switch on unless you have confirmed the fault. It is possible that the Magnetron is leaking and sparking to the ground. It is quite possible that insect can get into the oven and create soft spots. When you switch on these will create a short and make the voltage jump and in the long run damage the magnetron.
So Remove cover after disconnecting , check for dirt/moisture in the cabin, if so wipe clean and dry, check the magnetron and area clean and use an jet air to clean off.
Now keeping clear switch on , use a cup of water inside to test.
If you notice any buring smell shut off as the magnetron or the main HT capacitor can be faulty. replace with same type.
If there is no heating the magnetron/capacitor/temperature cut off is faulty

Light always on

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan, cooling fan, turntable, and/or inside light operation, too.

Details of our service are at our Web site, along with a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact me directly with your brand, full model number and symptoms.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

I have a Hotpoint 1425 over the counter

You can download Hotpoint / GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

It will cover changing the bulbs.

A circuit board failure can occur if a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or if the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (RVM1425XX##) here.

NOTE: FixYa's Web site is currently not notifying us when replies to our Clarification Requests are posted.

So if you need more help, please reply back directly to me with your brand and full model number for free do-it-yourself tips or an estimate if required.

Hotpoint RVM1425

The first thing I would suggest is to turn off the breaker or unplug it from the wall for a few minutes to "reset" it, then try again. If a reset doesn't fix it, I would think you may have a defective magnetron. When you heat something of very low moisture content, it can lead to microwave energy not being fully absorbed, but instead being reflected back to the magnetron. This can damage it. This is usually best left to a pro to repair. In case it might help, your owner's manual can be found online at: http://products.geappliances.com/ProdContent/Dispatcher?REQUEST=SKUOBJECTS&DOCUMENT=Use%20and%20Care%20Manual&SKU=RVM1425BA

Acceptable distance from cook top surface to microwave?

Sorry but your subject line got cut off. I'll assume you're talking about the distance from the cooktop to the top of the microwave (bottom of the cabinet to which it's mounted).

Here's how the installation instructions spec it:
  • "Make sure the bottom edge of the cabinet that will be above the microwave oven is at least 66" from the floor and 30" from the cooking surface."
So it's measured from the cooktop to the top of the microwave, not the bottom edge.

And I always recommend that you use the vent fan whenever you're cooking on the stove top to keep heat, steam, and grease out of the controls and door panels.

You can also download your owner's manual form the link I posted above.

My hotpoint rvm1425 is not heating anything up

est the high voltage capacitor, the rectifier diode.or the magnetron. If all this are fine, test the control board.

Thediode and capacitors can br tested. The capacitor must bealloweddischarge before testing, or you risk to get electrocuted, evenifpower is off. Capacitors can get discharged by shorting theirtwocontacts.
Before replacing the magnetron test also the control board.
Replace the magnetron if the checks and all of the high voltage component tests are good, but the unit still does not heat.

All locations, and description of this parts can be located using the diagram here: Counter top.

Parts must be tested to find out what is wrong.

Remember that microwaves are potentially dangerous devices if not repaired properly, the job must be done by a competent person.
A microwave energy leakage test must always be performed when the oven is serviced for any reason.

Regarding parts, contact the seller here to purchase parts.

Hotpoint RVM1425 Microwave Oven IT BEEPS, SHOWS F3 OR F4

F3 on a GE / Hotpoint microwave means you have a shorting membrane keypad.

If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and please do not leave it running unattended.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you would like to have us do this repair for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
