Planar PE191M monitor display will not stay on

iv come across this before sometimes people can see that the monitor is actually working but the light has gone out id say bad capacitors that are breaking down. if you want to DIY it take it apart and find the light pcb usually built on the power supply pcb and look for bulging or swolen capacitors this happens alot in my opinion. if you can DIY it get the same caps or same value but better ones. I might be wrong but worth a look

Same issue, screen comes up for 2 seconds then blacks out

plug the screen into another pc, laptop, whatever you can find. if it still does it its the screen, if not its your video. could be a power cord, but usually not. if cheap it may be worth a gamble.

Screen goes black after 2 seconds

This could be one of two problems, the light in your monitor has a loose cable, or the light is dying. I have seen cold cathode lights that are about 10-15$ to buy and many instructions on putting them in yourself.

Solution 2, your cable is loose on the back of the monitor. Make sure you have the screws tightened on either side of the vga or dvi cable, both on the back of your monitor and on the back of your computer or laptop.

Can I use just the upstream hookup to connect an external monitor to my laptop? Also need to replace power cord. was not included Not the output needed Pwr rating says 12v dc 5.5a. That's all.

I use either VGA or HDMI connectors to connect to an external monitor. I'm not sure what you're asking on the "power cord". Are you asking about the charging "brick" and such? Or?

"Input not supported" even though it appears to be displaying correctly.

You will need to go to advanced settings under resolution options and set the display to 60hz refresh rate then go back to resolution and set your native, the problem is its probably trying to default to 75hz and is causing an issue

Planar 997-2419-00 monitor is dark completely but

ivettecorral, "Switch-mode-power-supply" is in partial shutdown mode. The monitor needs you or tech to fix it. Your display isn't any different than any other brand that has BLACK and not BLANK screen!!! Read more options that you have open to you in my fixya profile. Then decide what and how you will restore unit to operational condition. 12fixlouie aka louie12fix If this helps geting you started after you do some reading, come back and rate this response on fixya!!

Won't communicate with computer

Try connecting another "known-good" monitor to your computer.
If it does not work, it's the video-card on your computer that is the problem.

Try connecting the monitor to the VGA-port on a laptop, or to some other desktop. If it does not work, and if it's under warranty, exercise the warranty. Otherwise, it's dead, and you need to buy a replacement, and responsibly recycle the dead monitor.
