Built in water softener

really don't know have you got the manual. Normally you have to test the water ph level and then adjust the dish washer to that ph level and then fill the salt reservoir. Not sure on your model of dish washer . However you could add a water softener to the water inlet to the dish washer . Just search for Water softener device see http://www.uvguard.com/hwc-home-series/

I have a Chef Classic dishwasher - not washing properly

The caddy for cutlery on this model is in front of the compartment where you put the tablets. What'll sometimes happen, is a spatula or wooden spoon or something in the caddy will hold the tablet compartment lid shut - it'll stop them coming out properly.
After a while the water movement will move the obstruction and the tablet will come out, but it'll only be dissolved for a bit of the wash and the dishes won't be cleaned properly.

Water wont drain from dishwasher

There's a few things you can look into that won't cost you any money.

First, manually remove as much water as possible and then check the sump area for paper or any other large object clogging the drain. A cup or so of water in the sump area of your dishwasher is normal and it is there to prevent the seals from drying out. The dishwasher will pump this old water out before beginning to wash.

Make sure the door is properly latched as the pump will not drain if the door is not latched properly.

Check the belt, drain line, air gap, drain valve and solenoid assembly, the motor, and the pump. If your dishwasher uses a belt to drive the pump, and it has broken or come off the pulley, replace it.

If you have recently installed a garbage disposer in your home, make sure that the drain plug on the disposer has been removed. It's just a little plastic piece that blocks the hole where you hook the dishwasher drain hose. If your dishwasher drains through the garbage disposer, you need to run the garbage disposer before you run the dishwasher to make sure that the drain is clear.

There is a drain hose between the drain valve or pump and the garbage disposal or drain line. If an obstruction has blocked this, then your dishwasher won't drain. The drain hose is connected by clamps to the drain valve and the disposer or drain pipe. Remove it and visually inspect it for a clog or a kink. Try to remove any debris. If it is in good condition, just put it back on, and if not, purchase a new one to install.

If you don't have an air gap in the drain line, at least use a high drain loop. Making a large loop about 18" off the ground with the drain line can prevent any back flow into the dishwasher from the sink.

If you have one, the air gap will be located on top of the sink. The air gap is there to prevent any siphoning of standing water from the sink. When your dishwasher drains, the air gap diaphragm will form a seal and allow the water to drain properly. If the diaphragm in the air gap is faulty, it’s possible that water can leak onto the cabinet and into the sink area. When this happens, then the air gap must be replaced.

Like the inlet valve, there is also a drain valve on most models. When no power goes to the drain valve it remains closed and prevents water from leaving the machine. When the valve receives power during the drain cycle, the solenoid opens and allows the water to leave the machine. If your drain hose is attached directly to the pump, you don't have a drain valve. The motor simply reverses and the pump sends the water in the opposite direction, which is out of the machine.

If the motor doesn’t turn or work properly, the dishwasher may not drain. Make sure you have power to the unit. If you notice that the motor hums but won't turn, it could be seized, and you probably need to replace it.

if you need to buy any parts, I have had alot of help from http://www.apwagner.com
Small objects can sometimes get stuck in the pump. When this occurs, you’ll need to open the pump and remove any debris buildup. The dishwasher pump is usually mounted directly to the motor and runs off the motor as well. The pump is also attached to the bottom of your dishwasher and pushes the water from the dishwasher.

No water supplied

float could be stuck . pull the float inside the dishwasher up and down then try it. could be a bad pump, or angle stop is closed or clogged. if float doesn`t work. turn the water supply line off located under the kitchen sink. make sure it`s off by turning the hot water knob on your kitchen faucet. unplug the unit also under the sink. take the bottom cover off and look for the supply line that goes into the water pump. unscrew the supply line. get a bucket and turn the water supply back on just alittle to see if tou get water coming out. if you do it`s not clogged. so it`s either the pump or it`s the timer switch 9 out of ten times it`s the timer switch. good luck.

DIshwasher doesn't drain or fill

Hello annie8866,
First off.. unplug power and then reapply power to it for a little while to see if a power reset will put it back in the proper sequence.. next, check inside the base for a drain inlet and a filter/screen and clean anything you see out of it.. Then try cycling it without dishes to see if it will run thru a cycle and drain properly.. Its ok to add a cup or two of white vinegar during the wash process to remove byproducts of the wash from the inner components.. Make sure the drain hose is not clogged or kinked up.. Try these things and get back to me if it is still misbehaving..

Detergent Dispenser does not open

The detergent door on this model is operated by a wax motor. It can be tested by using a power cord across the two terminals of the wax motor and plugging it into a 120v outlet. The plunger of the motor should push out in approx 45-60 seconds, opening the lid. Use extreme care if testing it this way. The part number for the wax motor is 902899. You also need to look at the linkage where the motor connects to, making sure everything is intact. If you would rather not fool with the thing, you can always pick up detergent tabs that are just added to the bottom of the tub. Hope this puts you on track.

Detergent dispenser

The opening of this dispenser is controlled by a wax motor for release. If you are unable to keep the latch shut you are probably looking at the spring and latch assy. This is not a hard job, but you have to open the inner door to get at the latch. Part numbers for the spring disp. flap is 912547. The latch (inside door) is 99001291. If you take your time and observe carefully the job will be easy. Catriver, post back.

Dishwasher doesn t dry

A simple solution would be to not select Heat Dry if you have that option on your machine. When the washing cycle is complete, open the door partially (4 to 6 inches) to allow the hot water vapors to escape. Evaporation will dry the dishes in the lower section and the warm dishes can be returned to your cabinet. Glasses, etc., from the upper section can be removed and stored. In the remaining space on the upper level. Cups that may have some water remaining in the depressions at the bottom of the cup are turned horizontally in the basket so the water from the depressions can drain. Some minimal wiping may be necessary prior to storage. Not only have we solved the drying problem we have added some humidity to the air; do not have to worry about a non-functional switch and reduced our electric bill as well. As a side note, once all of the above has been completed we never close the door completely but leave it an inch or two from a complete close; this will not compress the door gaskets and will add to their service life. Hope this helps!
