If it ain't compatible, it ain't compatible. Compatibility is not something that can be bolted on afterwards - replace the camcorder

Where is the reset button on the mv650i?

There isn't a "manual" reset button on the camera. You access the rest to factory default settings in the menu options.

Is there a reset button on the mv650i?

Camera's do have microprocessors, but don't need any reset. If they act strange, removing the battery and after a few moments replacing is, will do the same trick as a cold boot from a computer. If the same error keeps coming back, something more serious is wrong. Most of the time there is a hardware failure. And no other reset could solve that. If you did not use the camera for a long period, check if all contacts are clean and shiny. contacts to be cleaned (if needed) whit a dry cloth or cotton swab. Never use sharp tools in or close to a camera.

Cassette removal from dead Canon MV650 Camcorder

I just solved my own problem by disassembling the camcorder until I had access to the little motor which operates the eject mechanism. It sits on the corner of the mechanics subassembly, close to the cassette. By applying about 3.5 Volts DC from a regulated power supply to the two motor contacts, it started to operate (test which direction it needs to go by trying both polarities) and lifted the cassette out of the play position and ejected it. Only since the tape was still wound around the drum, I had to use a thin tool to turn the cassette hub in order to tighten the tape a bit. Then the protective cover of the cassette closed and I could slide the cassette out of the slot by hand. Bingo!

Can't record or take photos

Yet another CCD sensor problem ( in your case it is outputting nothing so you get blank screen as opposed to heavily distorted picture which is also very common). Properly manufactured sensor lasts 10 years + so you should have this repaired free of charge if you can. Replace CCD block.

Use USB cable to connect your device to your computer and you should have a software installed in your computer to be able to capture videos from the tape inside on your camcorder.
