Vertical lines on an LCD screen are, as a general rule, not good! Your screen is heading for the drain!

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). "Update" does not mean "upgrade." You can update the firmware in the microprocessor with a newer version, so that it runs better in most cases. You cannot upgrade to better hardware using this method.

Just buy a new computer monitor. It is not worth the cost to repair it.

You need to determine if it is the monitor or the video card. First step is if you have another computer, connect the monitor to that and see if it works ok. If not, it is the monitor and likely the video board. Depending on the age of the monitor it might be better to purchase new monitor.
