First get a known good power brick and try it.(Did you measure the voltage under load? Better not to even bother as it shouldn't be 23.5 anyway so discard the power brick before it blows something else up)
The excessive voltage may have fried the on board regulator or blown a fuse; you will need to dismantle to check this, just trace the wires from the power socket to the MB

Swap the modules between the slots.

If the message shanges to slot 0 not recogonized, then you have a bad memory module,
Easy fix, just get another module.

If the message does not change, then you have a problem on the mother board.
Not an easy fix, it would be cheaper to buy a 1GB module and use the good slot.

Hello Chris....i highly recommend you dont "pry" on anything and it have it serviced by a qualified tech. The vaio incorporates the heatsink and fan as a unit, It's a 2 wire fan that is temp. controled from 5v and up. You can take a vacuum and place at the ventilation opening and remove some of the dirt & dust that has accumulated inside, this will help. The cost is around 100 buxs for a new fan & sink...Sony part # 1-763-483-12. Attached is a pic of the unit..; Also note: a depleted battery will effect fan operation as well.

Hello - Depending upon where (in your home?) you use your Sony Vaio laptop (via WiFi?) you may need a WiFi booster or extender. Or, you may find that moving your WiFi router to another location in your home will improve your connection without diminishing the connections for other laptops used in your home. You should try a "POWERED" 4 Port USB 3.0 Hub It's important that it's a "POWERED HUB" because you need the HUB to supply it's OWN power and not depend on your Apple E to provide power to your connected USB devices!
