Why does my hp pavilion dv4000 laptop shut down

Check your settings in the power options menu located in the control panel make sure it is set to not turn off although I do not recommend doing this because it is set to keep the battery cool in battery mode just tweak the plug in mode. Set this to never when it is plugged in. If you set the other the battery one it will run forever and will eventually ruin your computer. Just a suggestion! John

My HP Dv 6000 Laptop Battery suddenly stopped

Not trying to be too technical but lithium ion batteries last longer than Ni Cad.
Ni Cad have a memory effect and if one charges them before they are totally flat, a portion of what was left is lost and a gradual decline takes place.
With Lithium Ion, they have characteristics similar to lead acid cells and as such tend to grow "fingers" across the cells stopping the chemical reaction and one day, usually after another of the far too many charges, the cell collapses.
Hope that explains it.

If you can go to SAFE MODE, go into Control Panel and go to "System" and then the "Advanced" tab. Click "Settings" under Start up and Recovery. Then uncheck "Automatically Restart".
This will let you see that Blue Screen so you can research the error. Then restart.

The first thing I would do is remove any new hardware that might have been installed, unplug any external devices like printer, scanner, camera, etc... and then try it.

If that doesn't work, pop in your recovery disk. It will help you through the entire process of the repair.

Let me know what happens.

Thank you!

How do you turn off the touch pad

Some notebook users find the touch pad annoying because at times, while typing fast, their thumbs accidentally brush up against the touchpad. This is frustrating because the mouse cursor jumps to a random location on the screen and can cause undesirable things.

To turn off the touchpad when an external mouse or other pointing device is present, you can goto the Control Panel and double click the Mouse properties icon.

Click the Device Select tab and check "Disable Touch Pad when USB Pointing Device is present." The cursor will no longer move via the touchpad.

You either have a bad inverter or the backlight is dead. More than likely the Inverter is bad. You can check the inverter by connecting it to another backlight CCFL (florescent bulb) and if it comes on, the your inverter is good, the bulb is bad. You can order the inverter online by doing a search for your laptop - make, model, and specify "inverter".

This indicates that the wire bundle running through the hinge has been compromised. Some wire has frayed apart and is making intermittent contact with itself or the lid movement is causing the wire bundle to pull on one of the video connectors.

In order to fix this problem, you will need to remove the notebook's front hinge cover & check the bundle of wires connecting the motherboard to the LCD screen. If this bundle of wires is damaged, then you will have to get it replaced.
