My hp pavilion dv4000 has a conflict with ip

An IP confict means that another computer has the IP that your laptop is trying to attain.
Open a command prompt by going to start>run
Type cmd in the box and then click ok.
In the box that opens up type:
ipconfig /release
it will come back with zero.
then type;
ipconfig /renew
It should pick up a new address.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Hp Pavilion DV-4000 Screen

Are you saying the lcd screen is black? It seems like it booted up but nothing appears on the screen?Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad. Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can beany kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vgacable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves yourvideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you rebootwithout you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN(Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correctkey for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key willnormally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display. If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works,then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash lightand nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card isbad.

'' a problem has been detected and windows has shutdown to prevent damage''

From the description it is the hard drive that is the problem, format the whole hardware and re-install your xp windows to see if that will clear up the problem, if not! have the hard drive tested to see if it must be replaced.

Sounds like either your fan to keep it cool has stopped working or your cpu chip is overheatting because the Thermal Paste on it has dried or is not thick enough. Give the guys at: http://www.generalsystemsconsulting.com a try. They will fix it and ship it back by Fedex or UPS. Get a quote from your local shops, then contact them. Even with shipping their prices are normally lower than others and they do a fantastic job.
