Hi! My laptop won't power up when I press power button all lights come up and cpu fan spining a while, but screen is black, and no beeps. I've disasembled motherboard to check any visible damages but board is clear. I suspect open PL1 in power circuit, and maybe some short circuit capacitors. Any ideas I'm on wright way to resolve problem? Any other sugestions?
Please help me to fix my laptop.
Best Regards
Slav.
This sounds to me like a motherboard issue, you could try going over all connections with a multimeter to see if any are broken. I would suggest to try and replace the board that ill fix it.

I came home from work and tried to boot my hp pavillion dv1000...it goes for a second then this comes on. i have never added anything to my laptop. just did it. i tried removing the wireless card ....it boots up...but now shows a blue screen giving a dumping memory error...i put the wireless card back in...and i get the first error message again...help
The problem is caused by a card that is either not built for the machine or is corrupt. This is not a driver issue as this message comes up in the POST (Power On Self Test) this is before any driver is loaded. The reason that this happens when a network card is replaced is because HP/Compaq laptops have a whitelist of allowed cards built into the bios. If the cards vendor and device id don't match one on the list they don't allow you to run it. This is simply so you have to line the pockets of HP spare parts for somthing 10 times more than what it is worth. The only solution is to flash your bios with a modified one to remove the white list. This is a very risky operation and could brick your machine. If your getting this error and have not changed your card the likely reason is corrupt card or the bios has somhow become corrupt. Good luck on this issue.

Hello,
I have the same issue with this laptop. I just reformatted the laptop with XP professional and the wireless, Ethernet, and video card drivers from HP's website do not work. I tried the HP pavilion CTO DV1000 drivers and the HP pavilion DV1000 drivers. Any help would be great.

I found the problem to be a rather simple but frustrating one....when is an HP dv1000 not a dv1000....almost always!! You cannot get the correct downloads based on the model number on the tag. You must specify the PRODUCT NUMBER on the HP download site from the tag, not model. You can enter the general DV1000 and get to the download page and look for the entry "Not your Product?!" Follow that link and enter the PN from the tag....download those and you will get drivers that work with your unit. My "DV1000" was actually a DV1660!!!!

I was told that by pressing F10 while starting my computer the whole system would go back to factory settings.
It did not turn out to be that easy, when I press F10 I'm brought in to a menu with various choices, but I don't know what to choose.
I want to clean my hard drive and get it back to how it was when I brought it back from the store. Does anybody have a simple solution to this, is the answer in the F10 menu?
Thank you
Double click "My Compter" In the window that opens you should see your harddrive "C" if you see another harddrive listed usually "D" with HP or Compaq as the name then that is the recovery partition for your computer and that is what F10 is going to use to restore your machine.
What options are you being given? it has been a while since I did one of these.

hp pavilion dv 2000, webcam is dark, need to be brighten
I have the same problem on an HP Pavilion dv1000.
This is what I have discovered. The properties of the webcam (contrast/brightness etc) are not available via Windows anywhere that I can find.
However if you install Skype you can access these properties, its free, its a good voip client and you can turn off the autoload at startup. Go to Tools > Options > Video Settings and you will see a button marked "Webcam Settings" under the "Select webcam:" dropdown. Click on this and you have access to the webcam properties, I found checking the Low Light option on the Advanced tab makes the webcam image much brighter, you can play with the other settings but I didnt bother.
If you then go to My Computer > HP Webcam you will see that the webcam is also brighter there, this seems to be the case even if you exit Skype. Haven't tested it in other apps but it should work ok.
Hope this helps
