Before we conclude that cable is faulty, we have few things that need to be checked.

• In the device manager check for "Other Devices" and expand it, you may see an device with exclamation sign on it. Right click and uninstall the device.
• Disconnect the printer USB and reconnect it back.
• Windows 7 detects the hardware and automatically installs the correct driver.

Note: When you connect the USB cable to the printer, and then to the computer, Windows 7 activates Windows Update. Windows Update searches online for the most recent product driver on the Windows Update site. If the online driver is more recent than the driver stored in Windows 7, the computer downloads and installs the updated driver.The Windows Update process takes place automatically. Therefore, you might not notice that the process is in progress.If you dont see any notification on connecting the printer, try plugging to different USB port.If non if these works, replace the cable. One or Both of your cartridges are faulty.

Your ink system is clogged. There is no way to clean it out as the caustic ink has eaten away the pump.

One or both print cartridges are failed.Just replace first color cartridge, if not help then and black.

next to your power button there will be a reset button............if it is not available than u have to do it manually while u are connected to your system...........then go to connections there u select your printer type and reset it........

Have you checked the ink levels and for any paper jams?

The things it could be: 1. There may be a failure of the switchmode power supply inside or a fuse on the printed circuit board has blown.
2. The ON/OFF button is not making good contact. Again, this would need the cover off and clean any contacts - try to short the contacts. Find a electronic or computer technician to help you with this. Maybe buy another second-hand, working unit, and use the original for spares.

HI!. Most printers have a self test facility to do a test page without being connected to any PC. If you can find that out from the HP site, that's a first step. Also, check printers in Windows Control Panel to make sure it is the "Default" printer. Try to send a test page. e.g. right click on the icon for the printer, select 'properties' & look for "Print test page". If all these work then next you would open Windows notepad and just type in a couple of rows of text, then print. If that works, then you try your original application program to prove that it is the cause (somehow). Check all physical connections & re-load the s/w driver.
Also, you could take your printer to a friends place that has the same Windows OS and see if it installs OK. Try & test print etc.

delete the printer form your printer list
re install with the driver which you can get from the support section from HP specially for vista. Easy fix

Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet. Disconnect the printer data cable from the printer. Disconnect the power cord from the printer, wait thirty seconds, then reconnect the power cord to the printer. Reconnect the power cord directly into a working wall outlet. If the power cord was plugged into a surge protector or power strip, plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet instead. If the printer still will not turn on, plug the printer into a wall outlet in another room. If the printer turn on when connected to an electrical outlet in another room, there is a problem with the power in the original room. If there is still no power to the printer, then the power cord or printer may be defective. Try the power cord on another HP Deskjet or Photosmart printer to see if the power cord is functioning. If the power cord does not work on the other printer, it is defective. Replace the power cord. If the power cord works on the other printer, then this printer is defective. Service your printer. If another printer is not available to test with, carefully inspect the power cord for damage. Inspect the power cord for visible damage. If the power cord is damaged, replace the power cord first. If this does not resolve the issue, or if the power cord looks fine, then service your printer.
