My HP DESKJET 842C prints test page in Black and white only not in color, how do I test my Color cartridge is working or not?

try to do the : You can check the ink levels here:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02693389&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lang...The driver for this printer, when used within Windows 7, is built-in or 'in-OS' so you do not have access to the HP solution center or HP Toolbox.Printing the self-test report will show how the ink is dispensed and what levels of ink are available. If on this report there is nothing shown, the issue is likely related directly to the cartridges rather than a software issue. If this is the case, visit this article and browser towards the bottom:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bud02948&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=...There are steps on how to clean the cartridges as well as the underside of the carriage in case there is and debris or interferrance causing this issue.

Hi Robert, I'm not sure what your asking but prepaired to get frustrated and possible damage your printer as these are not really made to come apart, as they are home model consumable printers designed to be thrown away as are all home Desk and Inkjets. only some of the high end Business Disignjets were made to be able to service them.I use windex to remove ink and lube rails with a light sewing machine oil and use a plastic grease lightly on gears. To take it apart you will need what they call a Torx screwdriver as this is what hp use.Hard without looking at it, but top comes off with 2 screws, then sides after unclipping from underneath here is some pics from a model similar DJ770c, hope that helpsHere a PARTS list for your MachineHeres where you can buy the service manual 10_17_2011_9_05_17_pm.jpg10_17_2011_9_05_53_pm.jpg10_17_2011_9_06_18_pm.jpg10_17_2011_9_06_44_pm.jpg10_17_2011_9_07_04_pm.jpg

My deskjet 842C will not print in color

Hi There

Summary

Usage of compatible ink and leave the printer idle too long may cause printhead clogging
What should you do if you get this problem. Relax; you may recover the printhead by unclogging it. Follow these steps to unclog the printhead

1. Right click in the printer driver name
2. Select Properties menu
3. Click Maintenance tab
4. Click on cleaning sign for regular cleaning. Perform this up to 3 times.
5. If this does not work, perform Deep Cleaning

And if that not work

Some times it needs a good clean up but this is up to you if you want to do this,
But after you done this prime the printer so it gets the inks back in the heads, it may take a little time for the inks to work.

Ok.

There is fluid cleaner for this but I can never find any in the shops the only ones I seen is when they sell them in Tesco but they come in with the ink refill bottles so I just use worm water by it self on a cloth and dabbing on the heads to clean them, it will not harm the heads but not to much water.

Some heads are on the inks them self but some have them inside the printer so I not know your printer so if the heads are inside you need to get them out you may find that some heads will just clip out put some need to be unscrewed so you got to know how they come out so be careful and not push to hard on them, if the heads are on the ink then it is a easy job to clean them,
It worth a try it worked for me more than ones.

Please all I ask is call back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one, so I will keep on helping.
