Try the steps mentioned bellow

Unplug the power cord from the All-In-One as well as the power outlet when there is still power in the All-In-One. and wait for atleast 1Min
Plug the power cord directly to a wall outlet without surg protector. (if possible connect it to a different power outlet)
Before connecting the power cord to the All-In-One press and hold the # and no 6 button and then insert the power cord, do not release the keys
until you see a message a reset (if the screen goes blank then release the keys and turn the power on)

Then check and see

check whether you have loaded the scanner software .

1 Press Setup.
2 Press 1, then press 1.
This selects Print Report and then selects Automatic Reports Setup.
3 Press ! to scroll through the following report types:
– Every Error: prints whenever there is any kind of fax error (default).
– Send Error: prints whenever there is a transmission error.
– Receive Error: prints whenever there is a receiving error.
– Every Fax: confirms every time a fax is sent or received.
– Send Only: prints every time a fax is sent.
– Off: does not print fax reports.
Note: If you select Send Only, you will also receive error reports if there is
any kind of error generated.
4 Press OK to select a report

There is probably a defect in de ccd chip of te scanner.

Try taking the cartridge out and make sure the protective tape has been removed.

Please do a clean download and install in this manner:


Uninstall the old software by going to Start>Control Panel>install and uninstall>scroll down until you find your printer if it is still there and click on uninstall.
Turn off the machine and unplug it
Turn off all your running programs including your virus control
(look in the lower right corner and click on each little icon there and turn off everything you can)
Now download the driver and SAVE it to your desktop
Click on it to install and follow the directions carefully. When it is finished, if it has not told you to reconnect your printer, do so now.
Restart your computer.

I have the same issue. Error:0xf0af8005. I found on another site that it is a hardware issue and would cost $150 to fix. Cheaper to buy another PC...

If either a paper jam or blocked carriage error message appears
in the front panel display there might be some packing material
inside the HP Officejet. Lift open the print-carriage access door to
expose the print cartridges and remove any packing material or
other items that do not belong there.

Throw in trash and get new printer...

When in doubt, pull out the instruction sheet. Solved it by some preliminary steps I didn't know were necessary.

You can go HERE to download the drivers and software for free. Then do the following:

• From Control Panel > Printers remove ALL copies of the Printer.
• Unplug the USB cable to the printer and re-boot the computer.
• Install the software and then plug the USB cable back in and XP will find the printer.

That should FixYa...

its safe enough to refill the printer cartidges .but get it done from some proper recycling firm.thnks for rating my pastc solution n giving me a chance to serve u agn.feel free to ask me any queries.

try replacing the ink cartridges as they may have dried out either from age or the seat where they are stored when not being used is caked with old ink.

Set to fax, ring it from another phone, what happens? Count how many times it rings before answering (if it answers)

 

Do you have other things attached to it?

 

Where is the phone line attached to socket marked line or ext?

 

Do you use Broadband? Has the fax got filters attached before it?

 

Are there other phones in the house or has the fax a dedicated line?
