This is a firmware error, you need to go to www.hp.com, then support, firmware & drivers, follow instructions. At the bottom of the drivers you will find firmware. Make sure your machine is pluged in and switched on, download the firmware and simply follow instructions, this should solve your problem.

I am getting the same error message. Did you ever get it fixed? If so, what did you do?

It is not recommended that the user replace the carriage belt, on any HP printer. Any damage caused by the user, won't be covered by the warranty and will likely result in a completely useless, but very expensive doorstop. Or paperweight..

I do believe your printer has since been discontinued for support, however only an HP Customer Service Representative would be able to confirm that. I would suggest phoning HP for technical support or to at least confirm whether support is available.

Even if your printer is no longer a) under warranty, which I suspect it's not, or b) out of support completely, they may be able to provide you with a list of Authorized Service Providers (ASPs) within your area.

I have had some success by converting pdf to jpg and printing from Adobe Photoshop. The HP 500 ps and 500plus are VERY fussy about paper size conflicts.

If any of the troubleshooting steps listed below solve the problem, attempt to verify printer functionality (instructions listed below). If functionality is verified, no additional parts should be replaced.

NOTE: Always verify the printer's current Firmware release and upgrade as needed.
1. Turn the printer off, then on to verify error. If no error attempt to verify functionality.
2. If the error appears or problems persist, continue with the remaining steps.
3. Turn the printer off, and disconnect the power cable.
4. Remove the right end cover.
5. Check both Ink Supply Station connections on the Interconnect PCA. If the unit shows the error on boot up verify that the connector with the blue wires is seated correctly (Connector P4). If the error appears when a print job is sent to it verify that the connector with the red, black and green wires is seated correctly (Connector P2).
6. Reconnect the power cable and turn the printer on.
7. If no error appears, attempt to verify functionality.
8. If the problem persists, continue with the remaining steps.
9. Replace the Ink Supply Station (refer to pg. 8-48 of the HP Designjet 500 and 800 Series Service Manual).
10. Following replacement, attempt to verify functionality.
11. If the error reappears, replace the Electronics module (refer to pg. 8-24 of the HP Designjet 500 and 800 Series Service Manual).
CAUTION: Never replace both the Ink Supply Station and the Electronics module at the same time. The printers Model ID will be lost.

At what point does the error occur?

Typically the lift blue lever error comes up if the plotter detects skew when loading paper. If the paper cannot be loaded without skew then either you do not have the roll seated on the holder properly or the roll of paper was not made properly, which I have seen.

A 79 error most often indicates that you have a problem with the firmware for the printer. Go here and download the firmware update that corresponds to the operating system that you have installed on the computer. Follow the directions that download with the file and you should be printing again.

Paper-Axis shutdown - usually a paper-jam caused by a blockage of the Paper-axis System.
