If this is a network printer then it's picked up a different IP address than the computer saw last time. You can get the HP to print it's settings for you via the menus system on the printer. When you have the IP address go to your PC and make the driver use that address.

There are 3 relatively simple possibilities. The easiest to check would be to try a different toner cartridge. Most print quality issues on HP's are from the toner cartridge. Second possibility is the transfer roller. This is the rubber like roller that sits right under the toner cartridge. It should be mostly black, not mostly white from paper dust buildup. You can either remove and clean it or order a new one, they are cheap.
3rd and least likely is a dirty laser scanner. This would require a service technician to remove and clean. If the laser scanner is dirty you would tend to have one side or the other be lighter as the scanner does not get dirty evenly across it's surface.

I would try restarting the printer, as it is possible that the network address the printer has is now different than the modem

follow the following instructions The Short Cut Method" 1. Turn the printer off. 2. Hold down the [Item-] and [Value-] keys. 3. Now turn the printer on. 4. Wait for RESET MAINTENANCE COUNT to be displayed and then release both keys. NOTE: Some versions of the LaserJet 5000 will NOT have their maintenance count reset by following the preceding "short cut" method. This is due to the many different formatter board revisions. If the short cut method doesn't reset the maintenance count then you will need to go into Service Mode to manually reset the maintenance count.

The user cannot select a paper tray for a print job from within an application. It is also not possible to configure a default paper tray in the Document Defaults, Printing Preferences, Printing Defaults driver options. This problem may be experienced with an HP PCL5e, PCL5c, or PCL6 LaserJet printer driver on any of the following Operating Systems:

• Windows NT 4.0
• Windows 2000
• Windows XP/.NET

Typical symptoms of this issues include:

• Paper tray selection grayed out.
• Cannot select paper tray, only size and type.
• Not possible to select tray.

SOLUTION: Perform the following steps to clear the NT Forms configuration.

1. Go to the Printers folder by clicking Start , Settings , and Printers .
2. Right-click the printer and go to Properties .
3. Go to the NT Forms tab.
4. Click the Clear All button.
5. To save and exit, click the OK button.

SUMMARY: This is expected printer driver behavior. The NT Forms feature allows a user or system administrator to configure a so-called "form-to-tray assignment" for the printer. When this feature is enabled it is not possible to select a specific paper tray for a print job, or to set it as default, because the system is aware of the specific paper size and type loaded in the various printer trays, which makes the source selection redundant. Some applications or environments may require a "form-to-tray assignment" in order to take advantage of certain features. For instance, in an Active Directory environment, this feature has to be enabled for the operating system to be able to report the available paper sizes in the printer to the Active Directory

In most cases, replacing the fuser.

Check it with a measurement tool ...and see if it has power going out from the power source ..and if it does..be sure it is a ac current ..if ti is not..ac...it means something is burned on the transformer's bridge ..(the one that makes it into ac from dc ) ..and you will have to change the power source ...cause it is the best way ..If you try to change just the part you risk to have functionality issues..and never know for sure where they came from ..

The Laser scanner provides the image onto the toner cartridge drum, if the scanner stalls or fails to turn an error is reported, in some cases the DC Controller may be at fault.

 

1)      Power cycle the printer.

2)      If the error persists, replace the laser scanner.
