This error 55.4k appeared in printer hp color laserjet 5550. The following trouble shooting did. Orignally my printer fault is display blank.Then i replace dc board with formatter board. blank is gone dueto new ram.Machine display showed the memory process. but immediatly the error 55.4k appeared on display.The reason for this error is, communication failure between formatter and dc board.The dc board which i was replaced by old type one.Then i found exact same dc board, replaced. Error was gone.Machine came to normal status , working fine.

If you have removed the paper from the output bin at the top of the printer and the message won't go away, either the sensor is bad or the actuator is stuck in the up position.

Look at the top of the printer at the rear right of the fuser. There should be what looks like a plastic rod(usually black in color) with plastic "flags". It should be free, moving up and down with your finger. It is used to guide the paper into the bin. What usually happens is the rod gets jammed in the up position telling the printer that the output bin is full. If your printer has this problem, just push the flags down to free it. This should fix your problem. Sorry but I don't have a 5550 in front of me, so this is from memory.

1st thing to do is upgrade the firmware. 49.XXXX errors are almost always firmware problems. Go to www.hp.com/support Answer the questions and then download the firmware. Please pay careful attention to the directions that are given. Problem could also be the application that you are printing from. Or a bad formatter. The firmware is the cheapest place to start.

Hmm, checked the service manual, the 59.51 does not show as a valid error. The 59.5X errors all deal with the cartridges, however error should be 59.5K or C or M or Y to indicate cartridge. Based on experience, I would check the black cartridge as it is the first in the list and it is possible that they used numbers instead of the letters on some versions of the firmware.

Most 49 errors are caused by a newer program you are printing with that the printer does not fully support. You need to upgrade the firmware on your printer to the latest revision as this will fix 99 percent of these errors.

First you will need to clear any jobs that are in the print queue, then restart the printer. If it comes to ready, you will be able to upgrade the firmware. If not, disconnect any network or usb cables and restart again, if it comes to ready, it means there is still a stale print job and you should check the print queues again and restart your computer.

You are going to have to replace the motor or the DC controller which drives the motor.
If you are not a tech, now is the time to call one.
