I have a HP 4000n
I don't have a 4000n, but I do have a 4200n that should be relatively similar. On the 4200n you can change this behavior by going to the menu, then Configure Device->System Setup->Tray Behavior->Use Requested Tray, then setting that value to First. My guess is you have that setting on your 4000n set to Exclusively, which will then prevent the job from going to a different tray. It also requires that you have the same type and size of paper registered in both trays if you want the job to automatically switch over.
If that menu path is different on your 4000n you just need to dig around in that menu to find the tray behavior setting.
I have an HP 4000N printer that is showing an E10
EIO Error: Has to due with the additional card or hard drive on the back of the printer. If it's a networked based printer try the following:
Power off machine and unplug power cord.
Remove the network card from the EIO slot
Remove the cover from the other EIO slot (either below or above) and insert the card into that slot.
Power machine back on, see if error comes back.
If error is still present:
- Remove the card turn machine back on and see if the displays comes to ready.
If machine does come to a ready state than I would recommend:
- Replace the Network Card
If after replacement of card and attempted both EIO slots. Then you will need to replace the formatter.
Hope this helps!
It says 57.7 printer error
By any chance do you have a duplexer on this printer? The error code says that the duplexer has a bad fan. Power down the printer and remove the duplexer. Power up the printer and see if the error code is gone. Replace the fan.

90% or better chance the problem is in the toner cartridge. I would swap it out with another cartridge and see if the problem goes away. I am sure it will. The only other possibility would be a fusing unit/drive problem but that would only tend to cause blur lines or missing lines that would be on the bottom 1/2 of the page only. It would not affect the top half.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.
Hi,
I just took a router
You will need to use a CROSSOVER patch cable.
If all IP addresses are manually set (i.e none obtained from a DHCP server), and the addresses are unchanged from when the router was in place, everything should work. But if you're using a normal patch cable, it won't - you need a crossoer cable.
